  • It would be on the road to being undemocratic, if he was proposing a referendum that would make him dictator for life. So far he hasn't done that.
The way things are going I won't be surprised if he does in the future. This is why I said he's on the path.

And I don't cut him much slack given that he was a coup plotter himself back in 1992.

Fair enough, but it's not really our place to decide for the Venezuelans
Who here is trying to decide for Venezuelans? We're discussing Chavez. Not plotting his ouster.

    • Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Chavez has done some good things, but getting rid of term limits is an absolutely awful move. Venezuela will come to rue the day the referendum passes.

And if one red cent is mssing from the "package" when it gets to Caracas, Arrian, well you can kiss Connecticut good bye forever. And dont forget its "Pedro" you need to see, and the password is "Apple Sucks". If you forget the password again, well I dont know what we're going to do with you.

Chavez isn't a saint. He is a human, just like you and me. We are fallible. We make mistakes. We require feedback to stay on the right track. And without elections, without feedback, there can be no sanity.

The worst thing the Bolsheviks ever did was disregard the results of the election between February and October revolutions. So what that they didn't win? The system had been changed, the Tzar overthrown, the people free. But by staging their coup, they turned themselves into a new Tzar.

Elections are the only thing that keep a government good, honest, responsible, and accountable.

(Yes, this is not quite about abolishing elections, but if Chavez has no understudy who can lead his party after Chavez, there's a bigger problem ahead.)

              • Chavez must apologize because

-From 1998 till 2007 the poverty rate only dropped 9 points, from 48,7 to 39,7 %
                Indigence only dropped 7 points

-From 1998 till 2007 unemployment only dropped 2 points, from 12,8 to 10,5

-Income distribution has remained basically unchanged, in 1998 the wealthiest 20% earned 11,4 times more than the poorest 20%, now the difference is 10,4. In 2004 it was worse than in 1998.

-Because he is a bad president, a fraud with a commie look which makes leftists around the world like him, who is wasting the money of Venezuela´s oil exporting boom in weapons (free oil for Cuba, free stuff for Bolivia, Ecuador etc, buying argentine bonds), wasting a big opportunity for Venezuela to stop being a third world country, and hurting its democracy.

You have to have a reason to run for a third term. You can't just run for "plenty of things."

2 and 4 are cash basis. The govt provides a lot of valuable services to the poor without charge, like health care.

I don't know how this is a response to what you quoted me on, and I don't see a connection with extending term limits and abolishing elections.

My concern is that he wants to be El Presidente for life.

It's not like this stuff hasn't happened before in other countries. This isn't wild conspiracy stuff. There are examples. I even gave one already (Mugabe).

I'll be happy if I'm wrong.
