GOOGLE PAGE RANK IS THE ALL!

Polys Decline will not stop until we are on Google's first page, and even then all is not assured, we need improvements and update to the layout of the site and its forums to make them more apealing.
In case there was any doubt, we (site staff/admins) know this.

If such updates could happen "overnight" -- courtesy a variety of possible factors -- it would have been done many nights ago.

...I see it's been five years since you've seen the show. I suspect your memories are colored by either your age at the time or your inexperience with better shows. For example, I used to think Voltron was a classic, because I was seven the last time I saw it. But since they've been showing the original episodes on Adult Swim lately, I now realize Voltron is a hokey, bowdlerized-for-America stock-footage POS. Even by children's show standards, it's terrible. I think watching it might have lowered my IQ by several points.

Watch Fullmetal Alchemist sometime (or even Naruto...hell, One Piece is better), and then DBZ. There is no character development on DBZ. They're all utterly two-dimensional, and the dialogue consists of: "My power level is ten times yours! I'm going to beat you easily, hahaha!" (long pause against still shot of cratered battlefield) "Grr...yes it is, but no, you're not!" (long pause against still shot of character's face) "Yes I am!" over and over for twenty minutes with commercial breaks in between. It's just BAD. I'll drop the subject now, but I advise you to think about seeing it again. Or at least ditch the avatar. You might as well have a "Dan Quayle for President" bumper sticker up there, it's painful to look at.

I think that the OT has actually improved since Asher et al left. The S/N ratio has gone up, a whole bunch of posters have come out of the woodwork, and there's generally more interesting stuff being said. The History sub-forum is fascinating, and while I'll miss some of posts by the guys who've gone, there's no doubt they were seriously intimidating to newbies. This guff about the OT dying seems ridiculous.

And how do you think people actually find this forum? It's not like they search it. I only came across it while exceptionally bored and just clicking randomly around the other forums on Poly. Advertising won't work and isn't needed, I bet there are dozens or even hundreds of lurkers here. TBH I'd post more but it's usually more entertaining and faster to read what everyone else has written (plus you are obviously less likely to get flamed - but that's not so much of a problem as I've said above).

Ok it's a big quote but what he says is true.

I am one of those who mostly frequent the OT. I get fed up with flamers and trolls and spammers.

Same for me (as LS) but slower and less funny.

                          • first, let me get something straight. Just about every online community with multiple forums, from gaming sites to knitting sites to what have you has an "everything else" or "OT" forum. Why the universality of it? Cause on the one hand, sometimes people just want to chat, whether about current events, personal matters, or whatever. And OTOH mods want to keep on topic forums focused and uncluttered. OTF's are NOT site draws, they exist to keep the On topic forums in order. Maybe Poly and CFC are different, but Id say when if so that really does show our time is past.

second, no hard feelings Patroklos. I like learning naval stuff. Though I of course never did say the Iranians would send the US fleet to the bottom

third, re "been there, done that" on ME and other issues. Part of it is that folks wont stick to the days news. If country X attacks country Y, most folks dont know enough to speak intelligently about X's strategy, or Y's or what effect it will likely have. It always becoms is X in the right, or Y, and usually it quickly moves from "was X right in this particular action" to "which side has been right in the last hundred years" - which of course everyone has been over dozens of times, ad nauseum, in seculare seculorum, amen.

Re: GWB. Yeah, we really, really do need a new leader of the free world. Give us something different to talk about. Thats a certainty, come January, 2009, if we can hold on that long.

fifth re DL dances: theres a certain logic to the DL dance. It was, IIRC, originally done when a SETTLER appeared in the OT. The logic is that most folks would post on topic long enough to not be a settler anymore before hitting the OT. I know I did. So its presumed a settler in OT is a DL. Now its sometimes the case that someone just finds the OT in a search, without playing a game, or is recommended by a friend. Or that they lurk in the On topic boards, but hardly post. I dont know how common that really is.
