    Is reinforced concrete aeroplane-resistant?

You're saying that if they were not phallic symbols we would dig deep holes?

How many windows would the corner office of the building in the big hole have? How would the view from the penthouse be?

Anyway it's much more expensive to excavate the half mile deep hole than it is to to build a tower half a mile high. It's also much easier to attract tenants for the half mile tall building than for the hole in the ground.

I wonder how many tenants they have lined up for it.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

What, like a giant Arch de Triomph?
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

                ground.
                I'm not really serious. But...

I've only said that the phallic symbols is associated with power and strength... so is skyscraper...

A hole is not (generally) associated with power! (Actually I find the idea funny)

                Imagine:

Big CEO corp talking to his second:
"Hey, we're so powerful, let's dig a big ****ing hole in the ground"

                2nd Executive:
"Yeah, It would look like if we're ready to swallow anything that come near us"

                Big CEO:
"Oh wow, It would surely show our powerful we are, people will look at the hole and will say: "Wow, that's a powerful hole"!

                    Which building?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Many, because you see, Dubai has a Visionâ„¢ and that Visionâ„¢ will make them the global hub of finance, commerce, retail, tourism, art, fashion, education, airtravel, seashipping and pimping. It's their Visionâ„¢ that makes them the preferred destination for any noteworthy international corporation, unlike cities with a vision.

Yeah but aren't they just a teeny bit too close to the equator for that to matter providing that global warming is true? It seems probable that they would be quite ****ed if sea levels were to rise.
