It just goes to show what a combination of huge amounts of oil, a tiny population, and loads of empty dessert can be. At least the monarchy is spending the money on development instead of wasting it on the military or what not.

It will be interesting to see how the long shore current changes those man made islands in 30 years. I expect big sand bars will pill up behind them.

That would be the cultural issue in question, yep.

But then Greenland should be in N. America.
        Exactly.

Frame Greenland for sneaking a Muslim past US immigration?

Huh. I'd consider Dubai middle-eastern. I never call countries in that area asian, even if technically they are in Asia.

Dubai is definitely Asia. The border between Europe and Asia runs through the Aegaean Sea, the Bosporus, Black Sea, from there exists more than one definition on the way to the Ural mountains, where the border goes to the Polar Sea. Anyway, quite a long way from Dubai to Europe. Africa is closer.
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Yup. And the border between Asia and India runs along the Hindu Kush and Himalayas.

Yes, it's in Asia. The "middle east" isn't a continent. It's a region. So Dubai is both middle eastern and Asian. Duh.

But I'd refer to it as middle eastern, not asian.

To be fair, I have not done any research on this besides Wiki, so I might be talking out of my ass.
I also think most of the US' skyscaper constructions are pure economic investments these days. There isn't much of a point of building a 200m in Midtown Manhattan if it's prestige you're after.

That building is not even vaguely phallic. Why do all anti skyscraper people resort to the lame phallic-connection attack? Has anything ever substantiated this connection?

The construction of very tall skyscrapers has zilch to do with any sort of conscious or unconscious phallic issues and everything to do with human instinct to aspire to great heights, whether by flying, climbing, or building a platform to reach it.

There is no phallic issues; there is a will to show the power of the corporation. So the phallic symbol is the best way to show it up.

Otherwise we would dig a big ****ing hole to show our power...
