I've been on an elevator that travels 2km before. It didn't take too long, just a few minutes.
It's like SimCity in real life, with the unlimited money cheat.

The "new money" Asian countries that build these things are not constrained by the decision making models used in the west for skyscraper construction.

Dubai is unreal, if any of you ever get a chance to go jump on the opportunity.

I'm glad they're doing Burj Dubai. The competition before it was very childish. "I'm the tallest!" - "No, I am if we don't count the antenna!" - "No, only the last occupied floor counts, so I am!".
If you have to argue about a few meters here and there you're obviously not doing it right
Burj Dubai will be CLEARLY the highest, no stupid caveats, and I respect that
It also looks cool and is an engineering marvel of our age
I'm curious why they opted for a reinforced concrete design. What are its advantages over the lighter steel frame design which is usual in skyscrapers.
Why are people refering to dubai as being in asia? I guess technically it might be (i'm not really clear on where europe ends and asia begins), but it's located in the region typically refered to as the middle east. I can't ever remember hearing Saudi Arabia being refered to as an asian country, for instance.
You need that territory to get your seven Asian reinforcements.

The middle east is more properly thought of as SW Asia. It's mostly a cultural issue that it isn't thought of as an Asian country (kind of like Russia, though that's more debatable.)

But then Greenland should be in N. America.

I just find it interesting how the language is used, and different terminology is reserved for different countries in the same region.
When talking about a supposedly backwards, wartorn, and fundementalist anti-west country it's the middle east, and when talking about a seemingly prosperous and rich tourist haven, it's asia.
