I like it too, if only because it's not just another variation on the OOOO rings. I don't LOVE it, it's a little bit naff i suppose but everything else lympics related seems a bit predictable. The bbc website comments section is full of naysayers who hate it.

I don't know who's worse, the minority who will defend anything remotely english/at a stretch british (who really defends britain nowadays apart from empirist english people, scots welsh and irish are all more concerned with their own identities than any brit one.) or the seeming majority of people who criticize ANYTHING british. I swear, the people who complain about this logo or european regulation BANANAZ have probably never complimented anything in their life. Apart from the latest diecast trainset from "insert toy train maker here".

Logos are supposed to have a meaning which at least to a degree is evident, nevermind elaboration on deeper symbolisms. For example the 2004 olympic logo was a 'crown' (not the correct word, but i do not remember it atm) made of olive branches. Such were being given to the winners of the ancient Olympics.
In the london olympics logo i do not see any meaning at all.

Hey, this is not a thread about english food, which is actually fine when people get away from crass stereotypes (as has been proven on poly before), but about a logo.

Silentone, your ridiculous conjecture that people knocking this logo have "probably never complimented anything in their life" is one of the most unsubstantiated pieces of bullcrap I've read on poly for at least ten minutes.

The "meaning" you read into the greek olympic logo is only "meaningful" because you own the history behind it (saying it's your history is disingenous, i don't claim any 2500 year old celtic tradition). What "meaning" should we encode into the first olympics we've had in 64 years? Chavs, reality tv and manufactured pop bands? I'm sure a "modern" greek logo that didn't just cling to 2500 year old ideas would be just as open to criticism.

I wouldnt really think that it was difficult for people who didnt know of the 'wreath' before to just understand what it meant once they got told once (for example by the reporters covering the olympic games for their tv channel).
On the contrary the london 2012 logo does not appear to have any significance at all; i read that it was a graphic of the date 2012, but that is not really very interesting.
On the contrary presenting via a logo something really related to the games always has a better chance of being memorable, or at least to be viable as a logo, something which it seems this particular one lacks, if one goes by the comments on the bbc site

I liked the Greeks approach to the logo and icons, it was very classic and well done.

I also remember Russia having a few very well done logos.

I wonder when New Zealand will get to hold the Olympics, its about time already! The whole country is mad over all sports, where as Europe is just like, 1 or 2.
