GDP per capita, nominal. PPP it's even lower.

As far as liberalization goes, are you implying only a liberalized economy can grow

This welfare state was founded on the belief that everyone should benefit from economic growth. If we get more growth that flows into big money only, it might not have been worth the effort to achieve it. Especially when big money pays little to no taxes.

Merkel has been in office for about 1.5 years, no? That's enough time to make your mark.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Then finally tell what she has done? Or are you still in dodging questions mode?

It's a deep seated Republican failing. Everything good must be caused by people I like and everything bad must be caused by someone I dislike. The stunning economy under Clinton wasn't because of Clinton's responsible government policies but must have been because of their lord god Reagan even though Bush Sr paradoxically didn't enjoy the fruits of lord god Reagan's magical voodoo. DanS is using the same argument now against Schroeder because he doesn't like Schroeder and doesn't want to give him credit where credit is do.

It is at heart a blindly emotional position to take which is disconnected from reality. Good governance in the 1990's combined with technological innovation and liberalized mortgage laws to create a great economy in the US which had nothing to do with Reagan who was long out of office. In Germany, Schroeder's economic reforms have helped to improve the Germany economy. It's as simple as that.

You are looking for clear causality. I doubt you'll find it here.

                    That argument is flawless.

                        Bonn is doing fine.

Bonn has developed into a hub of international cooperation in particular in the area of environment and sustainable development. In addition to a number of other international organizations and institutions, such as, for instance, the IUCN Environmental Law Center (IUCN ELC) the City currently hosts 12 United Nations institutions. Among these are two of the so-called Rio Conventions, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The number of UN agencies in Bonn, most of which are based at the newly established United Nations Campus in the city's former parliamentary quarter on the banks of the Rhine, continues to grow.

Bonn is the seat of some of Germany's largest corporate players, chiefly in the areas of telecommunications and logistics.

Simultaneously, Bonn is establishing itself as an important national and international center of meetings, conventions and conferences, many of which are directly related to the work of the United Nations. A new conference center capable of hosting thousands of participants is currently under construction in the immediate vicinity of the UN Campus.

The article forgets to mention that the federal government poured 1,5 Billion Euros into the region as compensation.

It works. Schroeder's reforms were so minor that it seems dubious to attach any significance to them.

Sure, we're happy to trade bureaucrats for cold cash. Let's say another 2 Billion Euros, okay?

The second line edited in after my response, probably not without reason named after you. Fine.

Schröder didn't do it - I disagree, but accept it as working thesis.

Merkel didn't do it either. "Being not Schröder" is a bit weak as explanation for such a massive economical improvement, and so far you didn't deliver anything more.

                                Who did it?
