Why is 9.1 or 9.2% unemployment so great? Unemployment in the US is less than half of that.

Its more that the trend of even higher unemployment (which we had over years) has been reversed. No doubt, currently it is still quite high, too high IMO.

Does this mean fewer posts from the German Polytubbies during standard working hours?

/me realises he is posting from work himself.

This doesn't surprise me and it's good news indeed. Once you kicked out that sack of **** Schroeder and his chronies, things couldn't help but look up.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Do you honestly belief this has anything to do with government policies?

I thought the old myth of government influence on the general economy as long dead.

              Nevar!

DanS: the thing is that the reforms done during Schroeder's gov are made responsible by many for the improvement....of course as always, those who were in charge back then try to make that point, while the CDU side of the current grand coalition (which wasn't in Schroeder's gov) rather likes to say it's more due to the great work of the current gov....

As a matter of fact, it was 16 years of a conservative-liberal government that got Germany into the mess in the first place. Quite ironic that a leftist government would produce the necessary changes to get us out of it.

                Kohl

                Schröder

                Merkel

                Always support the current government

                Edit: almost forgot: Schmidt

Yes. And not only the policies. Leadership.

The head of government is the leader of a country's economy? I didn't know you were a planner

Leave it to a German to focus on the mechanical aspects of leadership.

I figured there's no logic behind that.

Maybe Germany works differently than the rest of the world. I don't know. I thought you would at least recognize the power of persuasion as a necessity of good leadership.

At a minimum, Schroeder et al. were Germany's bad luck charm.

Schroeder showed leadership by doing reforms highly unpopular (reforms which btw even todays CDU politicians don't question fundamentally). You just don't like him because of his Iraq pov.
