  • so where are all the folks who care about Lebanon?

Violence, dozens dead, UN convoys held back, artillery attacks on residential areas, thousands of refugees.

    And total silence. What gives?

I think it's still developing so... I guess not a lot of people know the details of this. But an interesting event, why did they start attacking?

          UN is handling the problems.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I believe (and I heard only one report say this), that some bank robbers were hold up in a refugee camp and the Lebonese Army went into to get them.

apparently the brave freedom fighters of Fatah Islam are using civilians as human shields, and preventing their evacuation from combat areas.

We've had a heated discussion about current events in Lebanon at my arabic lesson. ]
                        X: "but they're killing innocents!"
someone from the class: "but they haven't came there without a reason
X: "but there are arrangements that forbid lebanese military from entering the palestinian camps
someone from the class: "but the palestinians have broken them!"
                        X: "but not the innocents"
me: "so what would You do if You were Lebanese"
                        X: "I'd give Palestinians freedom"
me: "I mean, in this particular case"
                        X: "I'd give them rights"
someone from the class: "but you wouldn't be ruling for 50 years, just now. What would You do?"
X: "the authorities could catch them when they were in Bayrut, now it's too late"
me: "I'm sure they've tried, but they didn't manage to. So what should they do now?"
X: "don't enter the camp. they shouldn't do it"
me: "so why don't Palestinians catch these armed men?"
X: "they do not have authorities"
me: "and that's exactly why Lebanese have to do it
X: "You support killing of children! You support killing of children!"
                        etc.
X claimed she's against any killings etc, but seemed to think it's perfectly OK to let terrorists free once they've taken shelter in the camp. She's a very specific person. She claimed we have no right to speak because we don't know these people. I think it's the other way round - she's too emotionally tied with them to be objective

yeah, I should point out, though, that without Israel, there would be no Palestinians in Lebanon, and without them, there would be no such trouble. A simple sylogism indicates that Israel is responsible for all this mess
