Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

@ everyone who think it's in order to leave your child alone, and go out when it is sleeping:
I truly hope none of you ever have children. Of course, that's not okay. What if the child wakes up from a nightmare, or what-have-you? What trauma for the child if it wakes up and finds that it's parents are nowhere to be found. Children are extremely volatile. Such an experience would scar that child for months and years to come.
And then there is the fact that accidents or mal-intent do happen, like it did it this case. Perhaps the abductors would have taken the child by force, even if the parents had been in the room, but we just don't know, do we? Chances are, that the abduction would have been averted, if the parents had been there.
Please rethink your position on this, guys. You just don't abandon your child like that!!Im not sure what Baruk Khazad is , but if they speak Judeo-Dwarvish, that would be "blessed are the dwarves" - lord of the mark

Well, if the parents leave children alone, they do it more than once, so it wouldn't really scare the child. They would expect it. The parents would likely tell the child beforehand too.

The kid is still missing.
Could someone explain to me these two things
1) What kind of parents put eyeliner on a 3 year old girl? That is what it is, right?
2) What kind of world are we living in when the reward donations for the safe return of a single child is set at £2.5 mill / $4.5 mill just like that?
Makes you wonder if there'd be any famine at all in the world if Ethiopians and Bengalis had prettier eyes and maybe tinted their hair a little bit.

I have 2 little girls. I would not even think of leaving them alone in a building (hotel, home... wherever).
No, I'm not over protective, its just that you never know if something like this could happen.
The parents left the hotel. That is absurd. Leave one at the hotel and order take out. Or wake the tyke up and take them along. Its all part of the responsabilty of being a parent.Founder of The Glory of War, CHAMPIONS OF APOLYTON!!!

I don't think it was responsible but this isn't total negligence like some people think.
I do however tend to agree "missing white girl" story.
There are thousands of missing children in eastern europe and russia. Hundreds are abducted each month and abused / killed / sold into slavery.
But ib the other hand - it is only natural that people would sympathize with this story.
It has advantages because:
a) it is only one girl. - people have troubles dealing with "20,000 people are missing in kambodia" statistics. That's why movies about a single case work - people can sympathise better with a single person.
b) the girl is white and pretty - lets be frank - it is easier to sympathise with someone who is like you. And if they're pretty it is easier because everyone wishes to have such a child or imagines his 'would be' little girl just like that. No one imagines ugly children as his own.

I'm generally the biggest opponent of helicopter parents who never leave their kids alone and hover over them every moment in paranoid fear something catastrophic will happen to them if they are out of sight one moment. But this girl is 3? I wouldn't have left her alone either, that is quite young.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

I think this is a personal tragedy, not something for the whole world to get its moral indignation in a wad over.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

A-HA! She was asking for it!
ok, crass humor aside, leaving alone 3-year olds is, somewhat, borderline, to put mildly. I fully understand leaving 5 year olds, or older alone, but this is quite different. It wasn't raving mad, especially considering the fact that she was asleep, and all that, but still...
generally, though:

So, according to several news sources, Madeleine is now presumed dead.
Minute traces of blood have been found in the hotel room, from which she was allegedly abducted.
What's more, this development has caused police to cast their suspicions on Maddie's parents, or alternatively, any of their 9 friends that accompanied them on their holiday.
What a mess
