Wrong... She may have covered Venus but it's as much a Bananarama song as Compared 2 You is a Sinnead O'Connor (sp?) song. I know because I once owned the original single.

Good catch - I thought it was a Bananarama original.

That adds another step into that solution, which makes it 7. I'm a bit busy tonight (especially after just spending a litttle more time than I intended on this round, the solution to which I'll post right after this), but as soon as I find the time, I'll go through that solution and see if I can chop down one step.
Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)

      • Ok, this one turned out to be quite tough, but found a 6-step solution:

        1. Dave Spitz briefly played bass in White Lion, before moving on to join Black Sabbath

        2. Guns 'n Roses covered Black Sabbath's "It's Alright":

        3. Sheryl Crow covered the Guns 'n Roses song "Sweet Child o' Mine":

        4. Sheryl Crow also covered Cat Steven's "First Cut Is The Deepest":

        5. On the 2004 album "Best Of Comeback United" Chris Norman also covered "The First Cut Is The Deepest" (no audio/video)

        6. Limahl's song "Neverending Story" (Titlesong from the film with the same name) also appeared on the album "Best Of Comeback United":

OK, I've now edited the solution - it's a whole different path now, not involving Erasure, Abba, Bananarama OR Peter Gabriel.

That turned out to be easier than I expected - I did a brief YouTube search with "Stefanie Sun cover", and spotted the her singing a Patty Smyth song... I knew Smyth had done a Waits cover, and the rest of the path came entirely from memory.

Heh, you are not the first to make this mistake on Apolyton. It's just that Shocking Blue was the first Dutch band to reach the #1 position on the US charts with Venus. The singer, Mariska Veres, died a couple of months ago

She sure had an impact on us 15 year olds way back then...
