  • I watched Cloverfield recently. I was hoping it would be a secret Godzilla movie but nooooo.

Everbody knows Godzilla is the baddest monster around.

The Aliens pack-hunt the survivors early on in the movie when they're sealed in a room. The survivors set up autoguns to fend them off, with limited success. (Parts of this scene may have been in the original release, but it wasn't nearly as significant timewise as the DC version.)

Bearing in mind it's been about 15 years since I saw the DC version and about 6 since I saw the original release version.
You also get to see the LV-426 colony as Newts family discover the alien ship and Newts dad being infected by the alien. There's also an inquest early in the movie (after the lost daughter scene) wich further points out Weyland-Yutani as the bad guys. And there's some other bits and pieces that are nice tid-bits (a conversation between Ripley and the Marines reveals Ripleys first name to be Ellen) All in all I think this lost scenes provide more atmosphere to the movie (especially the colony scenes).

If you liked that, try Tokyo Godfathers, which I believe was done by the same animation house. Equally good.

        • I saw 'I am Legend' last night and I've wasted an 1 hour and 42 minutes of my life... This movie hasn't an original tought in it. But sometimes that can be fun if it's done good. But this movie isn't one of them. While not as atrocious as 28 Days Later it's pretty bad. It's like the writers took the scripts from The Last Man on Earth, Escape from New York, 28 days later and Land of the Dead, put them in a blender and then put Will Smith as a cherry on top.

The deserted New York was nice, but even that wasn't as good as in The Twelve Monkeys...

          • Yah, I agree about I Am Legend. The story had been done before many times and it didn't really add anything new. I did like the empty spaces and silence, however - but that was all ruined by the extreme acceleration of the plot at the very end, which I couldn't really believe.

It might be a break out role for Will Smith though. I liked his acting in it - quite different from anything else I'd seen him do.

            • Yes, the ending... The less said about that the better...

And it was a different role for Will, not entirely convinced though. His approaching madness seemed a bit to weak, not really getting to me. He can do funny, and he can do action. But I'm not sure he's enough of an actor to do drama...

                  • Saw Juno and Stranger than Fiction in the last couple of days. Both were good. In fact, I was surprised by how much I liked Stranger than Fiction. The only thing that bothered me about the movie was Dustin Hoffman's participation in the plot, which didn't make much sense to me.

I believe I saw all his movies.

                      - Millenium Actress (meh... Great artwork, but the story was too sentimental for my taste)

                      - Tokyo Godfathers. It was pretty good.

                      - Paprika. Saw it in theater. Very good! The artwork/animation, in particular, was amazing!

                      Did I miss one?

                          • Other movies I saw recently:

                            - The Fountain. Sorry, I couldn't get past the first 15 minutes...

                            - The Marriage Of Maria Braun. My Rainer Maria Fassbinder festival continues. Great movie! Featuring Hanna Schygulla.

                            - The lady from Shangai. A very good thriller by Orson Welles, featuring Rita Hayworth (sporting short blond hair).

It was joke. I don't remember his character's name either. What bothered you about his character? Or was it the fact they used Dustin Hoffman?
