I saw Werckmeister Harmonies, by Béla Tarr recently. Excellent movie, even though I'm not exactly sure what happened. The cinematography is beautiful, and it features really long shots. Its a weird mix between Dostoeivski and Kafka.
Bela Tarr follows up on his seven-hour epic Satantango, considered by some critics as one of the finest films of the 1990s, with this elegant, haunting work about the cycles of violence that have dogged Eastern European history. Jancos (Lars Rudolph) is a wide-eyed innocent who works as an occasional postal worker and as a caretaker for Mr. Ezster (Peter Fitz). An outsider and a visionary, he marvels at the miracles of creation, from the planets rotating in the heavens to the sundry animals on earth. One day, a circus featuring jars full of medical anomalies and a massive dead whale entombed in a corrugated metal trailer visits Jancos' economically depressed village. Another more sinister attraction is a shadowy figure dubbed "The Prince," whose nihilist rants...Let us be lazy in everything, except in loving and drinking, except in being lazy – Lessing

I recently saw what should be required viewing for Canadians: a brilliant thriller of a film called Grizzly Rampage. I even saw it in HD.
Americans get to see it on the sci-fi channel on the 16th of Sept.

sometimes movies look so good from the previews and trailors. I've made many mistakes of watching movies based on these.
So what's up with this new resident evil movie? they are based on a computer game? I believe there are 2 previous ones, but I have never seen them. I have a song from the soundtrack of one of them I believe (nympetamine).
the movie looks kind of cool. But I mainly just want to see the ruins of Las Vegas. maybe I have some desire to see my city detroyed .
but it looks like this movie suffers from new movie syndrome. All looks and no substance.

I saw Shoot 'Em Up last night.
It was over the top and excessively violent but not gruesomely so, and it was permeated by an amusingly ironic anti-gun message.
Crazy, nonstop camera movement didn't make my head feel too good. Fortunately the director realized this was not a movie to drag out and it came in somewhere under an hour and a half.
The movie would not have been even remotely enjoyable if not for the exceptional cast.
This wasn't high quality cinema by any standard, but it was fun.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

I saw the last Harry Potter last weekend. The movie itself was just okay, but the actresses playing Luna Lovegood and Dolores Umbrage were excellent.
Last night I watched Burton & Taylor in Taming of the Shrew. IMHO, Burton's best performance ever. Taylor was great too.

Because of his injured back he wasn't able to indulge in any histrionics, and so his quiet inquisitor was even more terrifying.
On the whole I enjoy his work for radio more- especially when he reads Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milk Wood'.
Oh, and he's brilliant in 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf ?'Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

No wonder then that:
