Yeah, it was weak. I'm for a moratorium on making comic movies for the next time. I can't see them anymore.

I have to say, despite all the praise heaped on Hotel Rwanda, I wasn't terribly impressed. It made particularly sharp political points but I didn't really feel for any of the characters except in a few very good scenes.

The Last King of Scotland was good but focused too much on some random white guy having large effects on the government.

Blood Diamond was probably the best of the three. Leo is really a much better actor than people give him credit for being.
Haven't seen BD yet, but I found Hotel Rwanda overall a much more impressing movie than Last King of Scotland (not that it was bad).

                    • I haven't even seen the first pirates movie. Any movie that appears to be mass marketed for the entire population can't be good.

It looks like one of those movies that will have special effects that would be impossible for the time, and be unrealistic in every way possible as a period piece. But I'm open to suggestion if anyone wants to prove me wrong and say Pirates 1 is worth watching.

                      • This may be square-ish, but I'm tired of criminals being portrayed as good guys in movies. Yes I know it would be boring if all good guys were good guys, but I suspect it is a root cause of our violent and criminal society here in the U.S.

                            I liked Pirates 3

What exactly do you mean by "Why is this happening"? Why is anything happening in any movie? The reason you have the battles and what not is because the British East India Company has decided to step up its war against the pirates and eliminate them them all from the seas. And now, he's got Davy Jones and the universally feared Flying Dutchman to do it. So the Pirates all decide to get together to prevent extermination.

                              • I just watched a Spanish flick, "The Devil's Backbone." The director is Guillermo del Toro, who also did "Pan's Labyrinth," and is also set towards the end of the Civil War. It's a very similar sort of movie, but with a Sixth Sense-y aspect. Quite a decent flick, IMO.
