I didnt say "the whole thing is random" whatever that means. If you apply some criteria, and than select a percentage of the defined group more than 0% and less than 100% that is random selection. Of course its different than if you randomly selected without first sorting into subgroups. But thats a strawman, thats not whats being done now. In terms of the role of random selection, what you propose is no different from whats being done now, you would just adjust the percentages, which you believe are currently based too much on political considerations, and too little on risk factors. I remember boarding a flight from SF to Hawai'i straight after the shoe bomber incident where they were so intent on searching our sandals )my g/f was wearing flip flops FFS!), that they completely forgot to search my bag including my laptop, camera, batteries etc...
The whole exercise is a charade anyway to keep a gullible public in fear so it is more maleable to the suggestions of the most ****ed up administration the US has ever seen - and the worst thing is it works!
