Ok-- I have gotten to the point where I am ready to trade in our little beater car and I am thinking that I now want a small to mid-size truck. I am just starting my research ---
The thinking is as follows
-- We have a minivan which meets our frequent need to transport 6 or 7 people at a time
-- I have 2 fairly significant ( for me) landscaping projects where having my own truck would be majorly convenient-- Hell they charge a fortune just to deliver a tree . . .
-- I have taken up skiing and my car cannot transport even 3 people and ski gear
-- Trucks are cool
-- Now that we have 2 adults and 2 children, a small car would almost never hold all the stuff we typically carry-- hell a stroller takes the whole trunk.
So I want something that can have two carseats in back or can seat 4 adults comfortably , has decent gas mileage, and can fit in a standard garage (short box options may work well ) . I am mostly thinking about the 4 door models (either separate doors or those half door thingies are ok). Four wheel drive is a consideration but not a necessity (unless I get convinced otherwise)
I don't really need any bells and whistles other than air and manual transmission will be chosen since I don't see the point in paying extra for an automatic and have always liked driving a standard better anyway
It does not need towing capacity on the current plan although it doesn't hurt. NO off-road capability needed
So basically I am thinking of a smaller type truck for beating around town. . . . something that is good as a pick up the kids vehicle but is also functional to pick up a couple cubic metres of crushed stone.... something small enough that its not annoying if you commute in it sometimes
Any recommendations ??
I have been tempted to subscribe to consumer reports and may do that but if anyone has any good links or leads to start me out .. . . that would be great. IN a few hours I'll start looking for a good truck forum but if someone knows such a place offhand that would be wonderful
