You seem to have some contradictory requirements there, Flubber. You want to pack it up to go to the ski hill, but four wheel drive is optional. You also want to be able to take four guys (presumably adults?) plus ski gear but only want a compact truck. I can tell you from experience that there isn't much in the way of room in the back seat of a Tacoma, unless they've radically resized them in the last couple of years.
Oh and 90% of the time you can get to the ski hills without any real need for 4WD. The first hour from Calgary is pretty straight and flat-- its only getting on the hills itself where it gets steeper-- But the Tacoma that looks best to me is the Doublecab with 4WD-- THe idea of having a 4WD is growing on me even though I don't see it as a necessityYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto LuongoComment

As for ski stuff, you might want to consider a roof carrier, like the ones made by Thule. Better to ride in a van after skiing rather than crammed into a pick-up.Golfing since 67Comment
