"God has given no greater spur to victory than contempt of death." - Hannibal Barca, c. 218 B.C.
"We can legislate until doomsday but that will not make men righteous." - George Albert Smith, A.D. 1949 The Kingdom of Jerusalem: Chronicles of the Golden Cross - a Crusader Kings After Action Report
"The Walking Drum" - Louis L'amour. Though they always turn Louis L'amour books into Tom Selleck movies, so there's really no hope of it coming out right...
"Les Miserables" actually was done pretty well already or I'd ask for that. "War and Peace" would definitely make for a good movie... but there's already a version with Audrey Hepburn, so it'd all be downhill from there.
