No, it hasn't. It's my pet peeve with the media actually. They report this over and over and yet there is no proof for it.

Edit: found something recent. From Le Monde, 1st/03/2007

Nothing personal Spiffor, but Le Monde is just a newspaper. I need a link to the actual study. I want to see an actual scientific paper and actual scientists signed. Then I'm going to read it and laugh along the way

A dutch team has surveyed 1373 people born between 1900 and 1920 (the survey had been occuring between 1960 and 2000).
They noticed that those who drank moderately everyday had a life expectancy 3.8 years longer than the others on average. Red wine is particularly good in this regard, because not only does it have the good aspects of alcohol (when drank moderately), it has also specific components that are good for health. Wine-drinkers have, on average, a life expectance longer by 2 years over those who drink another form of alcohol.

That seems like just one quick "survey and run a correlation test" thingy. They probably didn't adjust for anything. It's too superficial to mean anything. For example: it is quite possible that cheerful, friendly and communicative people live longer than those who aren't such. Maybe those socially active also drink a bit more. But do they live longer because they drink, or because they socialize, or something else entirely? There's tons of correlation-is-not-causation stuff like that that is not easy to account for.

Many people get up in the morning, but the sun doesn't make them. Well, it doesn't physically yank them out of bed and throw them towards the coffee. It's more of a, as was said, correlation.

What are you trying to say? That people living longer because they drink wine is as convincing as people rising in the morning because the sun is up?

You're easy to convince. I'm not

Bah. EU is a lost cause. It probably will either go into pieces from internal problems, or it gets to sort those problems out and become some animal in the Revelation/Apocalypse kind of way.

As you get older you'll find that your hangovers get less and less tolerable. I prefer to have a couple of drinks every day and do without the binges altogether.

Why not beer? I've heard that the latest studies indicate that beer is even more healthful than red wine.

I've already found that. Which is why the binges are for special occasions only and not twice a week

                    I have a related question.

Why does wine taste like crap?

The only time it doesn't taste like crap is if I've had a couple drinks before drinking it. But then, that usually makes me sick mixing wine and other drinks.

wine and tequila got me sick once.

I still have many goals. Chief among them is to never have another hangover.

Wine obviously isn't your cup of tea.

And your next hangover will deepen your resolve. That's a goal I also have...I still make the same old mistake about once every year though.

Try wine with lemonade, makes it quite nice.

My mother is a recovering alcoholic. Hasn't touched a drop in about 24 years.
I'm a recovering alcoholic that drew a line, but still drink. I'm told that's hard to do and been complimented on the ability and that it's rare.

that's how I am. My father was an alcoholic (and died from it).

I can't, and really don't want to go cold turkey. But I do control it. I'm young enough, that I can do this. If I had waited until I was a full blown alcoholic, there would be no hope for me. So the goal is to never develop into a problem drinker or an alcoholic. I don't drink at home, only on social occasions with friends present.
