US Microbrew Renaissance

is obviously a topic that Doddler knows nothing about. Combine this with the size and population of the US and you can easily determine that the US has many more breweries and beers than the UK. Therefore the statement that the US beats the UK in sheer variety is easily proven.

That's a ridiculous argument. Indian and CHina must have more brews than the US then.

Hobgoblin is pretty poor and overly hopped.

And it's great the different local microbrew stuff you can get when you go from city to city. I had this utterly amazing Chocolate Stout from a place in Boulder, Colorado (the Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery) . And Atlanta has some local brews that are really nice (Sweetwater, Terrapin Ale [in Athens, GA], etc)

There are indeed.. you just have to find them .

Here is a list of the 2006 American Beer Festival winners. Lambic is a name usually reserved for beers brewed in the specific part of Belgium. In the Festival the category was called:

There was an interesting documentary about the US micro breweries last night. Its great to see such a revival of beer brewing in the states. No more 1920 style cheap light lagers but some real deal like lambic, pale ale(yuck), hefe weisse etc.

Knowing how good you Americans are in turning succesful products into world wide brands I'm sure some will be able up here too.
