Same with my dad. We weren't worried about this at all and then my mom told me all about this last night. Very scary.

I'm one of those wannabe macho guys who never uses a bandaid. Nor do I wash my scrapes and cuts. Many cuts I get and don't even notice them or know how I got them. Maybe I should be more careful from now on.
Usually though, my cuts are minor, and not very deep. If it's a serious one, I will wash it out.

My friend's father had problems with recurring leg infections. Some post-surgical, some diabetes related, etc. Will implore the Deity, my friend.
I have worked part time taking out trees and stuff for years. You can't stop and wash out cuts and scrapes or you'd never get any work done.
That said, at lunch break and after work I usually inspect wounds fairly carefully, and I use topical antibiotic like women use moisturizer. Arm scrapes usually clear up very fast, but leg scrapes don't. Must be something to do with circulation.
I had one spider bite back in September that I feared might be brown recluse. I didn't feel the bite at all or see what did it, but it had the characteristic white double-dot. It bubbled up with a small amount of pus but never became septic. It took a long time to go away, even for a leg wound.
Lately there has been discussion of brown recluse bite toxicity varying substantially. Maybe that's what it was.
