I have no idea what that means, but it felt appropiate.

The point is we need posters. More mods aren't necessarily needed, we just need more posters. We need to build something to bring them in.

Why not set up tournaments? I'd like tournaments based on skill levels. I admit, I don't play mp, because I'm scared to play with you guys. . My skill level is not that high.

In fact, I think in some cases newbies are intimidated by civ4 strategy and such because some of the guys there are of such high skill level. We need to be more accomidating to all newbies, and intermediate players.

Seriously, if there is anything I can do to help out with the site, I will. I'm here for the long haul. Though I admit my hours vary. But lately I've had more time to post here.

In some cases, if people teach me how to do things, I could help out. But at present time, I don't have the knowledge.
Ditto for me. Though I don't think I'm suited to a mod position either.

      • Indeed. Work continunes behind the scenes to rectify this obstacle as time and staffing permit.

Rethinking the flow of new content, and the 'workflow' of both newcomers and dedicated users of the site, would do much good, to aid the site structure, cover areas, and appearance (what do you push up to the homepage?).

I am not the most available person, but my current occupation often has to do with analyzing work processes and dynamics, and design (in form and in process) of computer aided solutions for data analysis and knowledge management.

All things which could possibly be of service this site, so I would gladly assist if asked, and if not asked - will continue to trumpet my ideas anyway

Can't claim to be a hard seasoned professional - but experience is the mother of all things.

My programming skills are mediocre, and my graphic design skills are not bad.

        • I used to be said that those that asked for power never recieved it. It also seemed to be true for some people. It smacks of a double standard, that only some people stepped forward, and of that pitiful few some were rejected outright.

When it comes to mods, that was generally the rule. But when it came to other staff members, that was not the case.

And yes, not everybody that stepped forward in the past was excepted. Trust is a big issue. Not so much for news editors and some other tasks, but mods have access to much of the site, and could do serious damage. The mod screaning process is a long one.... just ask Drogue

For those with technical skills... it's even worse. While we really need technical skills at the moment... trust is far more important since they have to have pretty much full access to many important areas if they are to do their job properly. In the past, the owners had to be REALLY sure before granting that kind of access. And that is still the case even today.

            • I'll give you my address. If I screw something up, you can come to my house and beat my ass.

              now make me a mod.

JK, I don't really want it, but like asking for it.

The reason I didn't respond is that I didn't -- and still don't -- have a record of it in my PM archives (which go back some years). Do you still have a copy per chance?

                          • ... well, actually, experiences with Civ3 forums and the lack of active moderators there certainly didn't encourage me to dive into Cv4 forums when I realised the new forums would be led by yet more of the old.

Also, I wonder how many potentially good community members were lost due to the cesspools that were allowed to ferment in various Civ3 forums for great stretches of time. Maybe the next Xin, alexman, or Sirrian came, was turned off, and went to CFC or just stayed home.

                            • A very funny thought just occurred to me. I probably wouldn't have stuck around were it not for Civ3 flame wars. Something about the constant whining and negativity caused me to want to beat Libertarian about the head with one of his limbs (among others).

In part I'm arguing against my reason for being here.

                              • Well, color me blind baby, I actually was immersed in Call To Power when one day I got an invite, maybe Platypus Rex and then real shortly after Paddy Teh Scott once I posted I was interested in being tutored, not whooped and not attacked but wanted to play and got into one time like maybe 15 games

The only "Turn off" came from not the Mods (Whom seemed to have a light touch for I dont really remember any Mod interaction in our games) or Forums but from the lack of visible combat damage in the game

Frustrating at a minimum but well, learned to deal with it.

What I found, was a lot of nice people, NYE is one

I found a cooperative community and we took off from there

Of course we are not that active currently but I am more of mindset to "change" something by simply doing it (playing games, posting and encouraging) versus slicing and dicing and hauling that dreaded "World is coming to an end" dark cloud over my passion, that being Civin
