      • It's not the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean.

I'm not sure how that applies exactly, but it seemed appropriate.

Oh, I just said I liked these people the least. I didn't say I didn't like them. What's wrong in disliking people anyway? Isn't Hall of Fame about it as well? If someone is liked more, someone is liked less.

                  • Naming specific posters that you dislike isn't acceptable and you know it. Neither is encouraging others to do the same. If you must take the hate out somehow, go find the guy who beheaded that dog.

                          • CFC has been the place for Civ modding ever since I first picked up Civ 3 in early 2002. Modding naturally draws a lot of attention because after a game is no longer being updated there's always new content being produced and something to get involved with. Back in the Civ 3-era, CFC was the place for modding and Apolyton was the master of Strategy stuff and Democracy games - but naturally those died out over time. Eventually you figure out the best way to play a game and get bored with doing the same thing over and again. Producing and playing new content keeps activity up.

But that's not the entire explanation for why CFC is more popular. Even when Civ 4 first came out CFC had at least twice as much traffic as Apolyton. I think the attitudes of the sites varies and has a lot to do with things. CFC is much more n00b-friendly. OT has kind of taken over all of the activity here. People seem to care more about the games over there, and I think that draws more of the interested people. And Apolyton has always seemed to have something of an "us-vs-them" mentality between different groups for some reason... be it Off Topic-vs-Civ fans, veterans-vs-new members, Civ 2-vs-Civ 3, CTP-vs-Civ, etc.

                            • and that's so nice about it! We are like Europe in comparison to CFC China.

Well, there's still a lot to discuss about Civ4 strategy. The CFC strategy forum is very lively. As for modding, back in Civ3 days, Apolyton did also produce quite a bunch of mods. For Civ4, Dale's work were the only big mods produced on Apolyton. Blake initially started work on his AI mod here, I believe, but development has long since moved to CFC, where there has been much more feedback.

But that's not the entire explanation for why CFC is more popular. Even when Civ 4 first came out CFC had at least twice as much traffic as Apolyton. Good point, but you're missing one more important factor - Google rankings. CFC ranks higher than Apolyton on most Civ4-related search terms, and it has been so indeed even when Civ4 came out. So for most people, CFC is simply the first fansite they find when looking for one, and people tend to stick with the first site they find unless it's crappy.

But except for the respectable PBEM activity here, yeah, OTF has mostly taken the place over. Given that I still don't particularly like this OTF and am still mainly interested in Civ, I sometimes don't know what I'm doing here. Well, I'm sticking here because it's my online home, I've been regularly reading CFC for Civ stuff, and sometimes posting, for several months now.

Us-vs-them is a classic of course, some people still can't take CtP players seriously .

Funnily enough, Trip, as the inventor of demogames, you're responsible for much of what made us unique during the Civ3 times. Just don't you forget that you're an Apolytoner, too .
