Sir Ralph (and others) laid it out.
For Civ-related content, CFC is just better now. Our Civ4 strategy forum peetered out... some of the best posters from CivIII's heyday are gone for whatever reason, or less active than before (such as Vel, Aeson, Dominae, Theseus, and many others). The strategy forum was really active and useful for CivIII & expansions, and its off-shoot, Apolyton University was active and fun. There were lots of threads, and many of them were really good discussions. Quality and quantity.
Also, as noted, the mod community over there is far, far more active than here. I can't say exactly why as I'm not a modder, but surely there is a reason for that. Blake's work is fantastic, but it's posted on both sites, and he's said more than once that he gets more discussion/feedback at CFC.
CFC is also better organized for finding basic info about the game.
Given the above, they get more newbies, and some stick.
But I'm hooked - it's 'poly for me.

Regarding the topic at hand, I mainly stick with 'Poly, but I also post over at CivFanatics, mostly in the Macintosh forum. You've gotta go where the resources are, and when it comes to Macintosh-specific questions, CF is generally the better site.
It's kind of sad, in a way. I remember when 'Poly had a separate forum for Macintosh-based Civilization games *and* a moderator for it.

I think that poly is a bit outdated in its design and has workflow problems...
poly has tons of information but it is poorly presented and often 'hidden'.
It has to do with the site design - graphical and content wise.
I had a long (though unpolite) post about it, several months ago.

I think I see the problem. Poly has a lot of older posters/players with real jobs, and they just don't have time to spend hours and hours modding a game and making scenarios. This is something I would have loved to do in high school, I just don't have the time now. I only have time to play the game and post here. Just barely.

Incidently, I agree that this is not a problem. For me. For the site owners, it may be. I don't know.
