Why has CivFanatics overtaken Apolyton in members?

Hey, I stopped being a DG hater years ago. Not that I find them enjoyable now, but there's no hate anymore . But you were considered a spammer back then, not that I remember the details well .

And Hunt Valley isn't all it's cracked up to be. This place always smells like nutmeg, chili powder, cinnamon, pepper... or some combination of them... because the McCormick Spice Co. HQ is about a mile from Firaxis.

Really? Believe it or not, I'd greatly enjoy that! So you only got me more excited about the place .

It was mainly, maybe even completely, because of my initial reaction to demogames. Kind of silly in retrospect. I started appreciating your contributions about the time when the activity started decreasing. These days, the only problem I have with you is that you cut your hair, which is very sad .

Oh, I should also remember that it was happening in 2002. That was the "Year of the Arrogant F*ck" for me. At least now I'm speaking my mind very clearly here .

I think that much of what several mods and markg often referred to as 'spam' was just inside jokes and chatter which is an integral part of any community.

of course too much chit-chat and posters whose entire goal is to disrupt discussion is bad.

however to label a few jokes 'spam' or resisting the natural flow of conversation changing the thread opening topic is certainly useless.

Well, it depends on what you mean by "community" . When I talk about the community, I'm talking about the fact that I've known the people on this forum for years and consider some people to be friends, especially those I've met in real life. We do tend to have a lot of forum meets compared to other forums I've known of. It seems that some of the UK posters have met each other a number of times. And I have personally met TCO, Q Cubed, JohnT (twice - though he's gone from here now), chegitz guevera (& bunnygrrl), pchang, Straybow, among others.

One day, I'm going to meet Ogie, since he lives in the same metro area as me... he just won't know I'm coming until it's too late .

No, it was just dislike of demogames. You weren't a Firaxian back then, I had no reason to dislike you just because I disliked Civ3. I didn't dislike Aeson or other active Civ3 players just because they were playing Civ3 .

And you could have at least left that hair somewhat longer! The way it's now it's totally unfair!

Oh, I also know people here that I consider to be friends. Only these days, it doesn't seem like it has anything much to do with Civ anymore. Which is okay, as friendship can and does transcend that - that part of the community is still great. But if you view community as an entity that newbies see when they join the site, well...
