im not assuming it doesnt. Some studies apparently claim to. Im not clear on how, though.

And how matters, as there may be methodologies that attempt to that are less than ironclad.

They seem to be relying in the Burt study so I think its a safe assumption that these types of things were not considered. But lets see if any of them will even respond.

                • Ok this is pretty good information here to anyone truly interested, especially for the question LotM raised. The heritability is 0.34 which is not enough to justify causality, but I don't know if anyone wants to argue that it is. The shared womb seems to be a significant factor in any study.

                  The Nature of Intelligence

Despite the shadow Burt left on the investigation of the heritability of intelligence, many studies have been undertaken in the last twenty years. The broad heritability of IQ is now generally reported to be in the range of 0.5 to 0.8 (Jensen 169). Herrnstein and Murray.s work relied on a heritability of at least 0.6 and likely closer to 0.8, as suggested by many adoption studies. A recent analysis of previous data, however, illustrates that the question is still open-ended. In 1997, Devlin et al. included the maternal womb environment shared between separated twins in their statistical models. As a result, the narrow-sense heritability, the evolutionarily relevant additive effects of genes, was found to be about 0.34.

Even though Devlin et al. conclusively demonstrated that different models could produce greatly varying results, they suggest unjustified causality, as Spearman did with his g. It is claimed that .it is not difficult to gather evidence for the importance of maternal environment. There is substantial brain growth in utero, and the brain has 70% of its final mass within a year of birth.. Incorrectly, causality is implied by correlation of brain growth in utero to the finding that the womb environment may influence IQ. The authors go on to cite other correlations of IQ and prenatal environment: birth weight, dietary supplements, alcohol, drug, and cigarette consumption. Although these cited studies were not investigated, I would not be surprised to find more errors of assumed causality.

Following the study by Devlin et al., the work of Hernnstein and Murray was reanalyzed (McGue). A narrow heritability of 0.34 is undoubtedly too low to predict the formation of a cognitive-elite class. Unless the rate of intermarriage is extremely high, traits such as IQ would be evenly distributed, and the descendants of gifted individuals not significantly more likely to be gifted than anyone else.
This is pretty much what I was thinking.

I don't care about beating people, but I do want to see if people continue on their beleives claiming that it's not based on ideology, and at the same time not considering facts that they have been made aware of.
