that doesnt matter. Youre not connecting kids based on who their mother is, only on who they shared a womb with.

A1 and A2 are identical twins. B and C are non identical twins.

A1 is adopted into family X. A2 is adopted in family Y. B is adopted into family P. C is adopted into family Q. Four kids, two pregancies, four families.

Now you check to see if A1 and A2 are more similar than B and C are. If they are, its not cause of family upbringing, cause families X and Y are just as different as P and Q (well you need a good sized sample for that, and you need the assumption that theres nothing special about an adoptive family that would take one of a set of identical twins, but thats all you need) If they are more similar, its not cause of prenatal environment, cause B and C are just as similar in prenatal environment as A1 and A2. So it must be genetic.

        • Now why wouldn't you compare the difference to identical twins who share environment?

edit: That's actually how the studies were done.

          • there are no real solutions. We can preach all we want about people using birth control, just some people are too ignorant to use it. We can't force them to use birth control. And of course we all know about forced sterilizations.

I just can't believe Canada did forced sterilizations into the 1970's. . And they act like they are so much better than americans with regards to civil rights. . Truelly appalling what both countries did.

Lately people with autism are saying there is nothing wrong with autism. Mental diversity they call it. Whatever.

            • Here's something about how the studies were done. Actually fraternal twins were used. You come up with a measure of heritabiliity. That measure has been shown to be 0.35 which is low.

Now the heritability of I.Q. can be expressed in terms that can be measured:

              H = [Variance(genes)]/[Variance(genes)+Variance (environment)+Variance (covar)]

The environmental contributions to variance in I.Q. can be measured by comparing the I.Q. scores of identical twins reared together with those reared apart (any differences should reflect environmental influences). The genetic contributions can be measured by comparing identical twins reared together (which are 100% genetically identical) with fraternal twins reared together (which are 50% genetically identical). Any differences should reflect genes, as twins share identical prenatal conditions in the womb and are raised in virtually identical environmental circumstances, so when traits are more commonly shared between identical twins than fraternal twins, the difference is likely genetic.
To What Degree Does Environment Affect I.Q.?

              • The more I think about it, the more I think computers and robotics will solve all our problems. The other thread mentioned robots being able to do operations in 15 years possibly. This could solve the doctor shortages. Computers will be used to develop new technologies and products, as they are now.

The thing we will run into is the politicians are getting dumber and dumber (see current president). And the masses will just overwhelm the minority of elites. I see more riots in the future, more people in prison, and more police forces. But society will survive. It always seems to find a way.

                  • I'm not discussing inheritance of intelligence. There is nothing to discuss. There is nothing to prove. Nothing needs to be proven.

ouch, you had to spell it out for me. I was thinking of two studies that did not use this approach but I should have understood the nature of the study you describe here from your earlier posts.

                      Thank you in any case.

You say that no action should be taken, but sometimes non-action is worse. If environment is a major factor then we can shape our environment to make a better future. We don't need to live in a police state etc..

Is there a study that uses this approach? I think the studies all used fraternal twins that were not adopted as indicated in my cite posted.

Would you want the AI's to make the decisions too? How would they be designed so that their interests perfectly match our own to such a degree that they could even overide our dumb decisions in a way that would always give results we eventually approve of?

I think you're courting disaster if the humans don't have as much intelligence as possible if trying to manage such an arrangement of civilization.

humans would still be in control. There will always be smart people around. It's just they will be more outnumbered by the masses. So they will use tools such as computer and robotics to aid them. I do not advocated having computers running things.

Politicians will still be running things. But as I said, it seems even today we aren't getting as good as candidates as we used to.
