Dysgenics: Is the western society gene pool degenerating?
Yes, I know. However, in this case we have people claiming that there is strong evidence for something based on correlation when it seems reasonable to assume that the dependence of the variables is significant enough to discredit the study.
Have you looked at the Wikipedia article? the psychological studies compared the intelligence of TWINS.

Strike 6 against Kid :dependence of the variables does not mean there is no correlation or discredit the study.
Again, showing he doesn't know anything about correlation or dependence.
Come on Kid, where's that little stats knowledge you spoke of?
Buried in your backyard?
Fine. What about intelligence? Remember, that is the topic.
So you concede that, for height, env. and genes are dependant?
And height is inherited?
That's how this all got started.
You claimed dependance of env. and genes implied that the trait is not inherited, I showed this was wrong using height as an example, you have just accepted my counter-example to your original claim.
We now both agree you were wrong.
I'm glad we finally got here, although it was longer than it should have been. I should have listened to LOTM and ignored kid.

That is not my argument you ASS! I'm saying that since there is dependence that correlation is not strong evidence.

can someone please tell me how a twin study adjusts for the impact of the prenatal environment? Arent twins both exposed to identical influences from maternal nutrition, alcohol use, etc? How would a correlation ofiIntelligence among twins distinguish the impact of such influences from the impact of genes?

Genetics textbooks have been remarkably unaffected by the discovery of fraud in the work of British psychologist Sir Cyril Burt or by the resulting critical review of other classic studies on the genetics of intelligence. Although Burt's name has nearly vanished from current textbooks, his results continue to be cited in textbook discussions of the heritability of intelligence, as do the results of other studies now recognized as methodologically inadequate. Moreover, genetics textbooks consistently employ confused or misleading definitions of the concept of heritability that, together with the reporting of discredited data, perpetuate a fundamentally inaccurate understanding of the genetics of intelligence. This situation is largely attributable to the practice-generic to textbook writing but in this case taken to an extreme-of authors' liberal borrowing from one another or from a few apparently authoritative works (including earlier textbooks). The extent to which authors rely on these sources for their discussion of the genetics of intelligence is apparently a function both of the controversiality of the subject and of authors' technical insecurity, perhaps reinforced by prior assumptions about the influence of genes on variations in intellectual performance.
