Hmm, by that logic the biggest mistake the city made in all of this came back in 1982.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

Yes, that makes it hard to believe that the property wasn't given to them. If you let an anarcist occupy your building you should not expect to have an easy time getting it back.

Well, based on what I've read about the history of the place, the various people & groups that have occupied it have been leftist, but not necessarily all anarchists. They may have veered in that direction in the 90s, for all we know.

It sounds like relations between the council and the Ungdomshuset deteriorated in the mid-to-late 1990s. The fire, the mold/rot, the apparent trouble in getting in to renovate...

Its hard to say what made the council to sell the place to the Cult but clearly it was a huge mistake and poor judgement on their part. Amateurs...

Why was it a huge mistake and poor judgment?

Because the Ungdomshuset people had a hissy fit and got violent?

I think they just didn't have good leadership, which is typical for them. I have a hard time beleiving that they don't care about it though.

Exactly. Especially when the council didnt appoint them a new equal location. This is really a sad story about the competence of the Copenhagen City council.

Why is the city required to give this group stuff for free?

I'm not saying the city shouldn't, if people value this group and whatever work they do (do they?) in the community. I'm asking why the city is required to do this...

Based on? It can't be on how well the maintained something they claimed was so precious to them.

Because breaking promises like hat is bound to have consequences. By pulling the carpet under the young the council created these riots and violence, polarised the citizens and radicalised the youth even further. Not exactly the ideal diplomatic outcome. That is just not how you run a city.
