I remain constantly puzzled as to why Sayid isn't the acknowledged leader.

Locke should be the acknowledged leader, if anyone. His practical skills have helped survival a lot (although clearly Jack is also critical as a doctor), but the difference is, Jack spends too much time arguing and being pissed off, while Locke is always doing whatever he can to help the other survivors. Such as that cradle he made for Claire when she was pregnant, it really meant a lot for her - that sort of a thing Jack doesn't do.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Dude, Locke can't be the leader--he's clearly nuts.
He knew the place was wired with C4, but he entered the "hostiles have invaded" code anyway, knowing it would probably blow **** up. But how did he know he would have time to get out before **** blew up?
Then the whole killing Patchy McPatchenstein thing.
The man is NUTS. I hope Sayid administers an epic, Ike Turneresque pimpslapping in the near future."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

Given all the flashbacks and backstory, it would take a major narrative reboot to have any of the 815 people an Other, unless that person intentionally made the plane crash, which would not make any sense whatsoever."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

Locke is nuts? Well, yeah, he is a bit crazy. Still the man I'd trust the most on the island, I'd much rather stick around him than Jack or Sawyer.
Then again, Locke's reasoning with C4 wasn't too bad. Okay, when he entered the "hostiles have invaded" code, he could likely assume the place would blow. But it also followed logically that the DHARMA would design it so that their people could get the hell out of there before the station blows. I'm even pretty sure that Marvin Candle, or whatever his name is, appeared on the monitor after entering the code saying something like, you have 2 minutes to get out.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

We've already established that Others were sent to pose as crash victims. No reason to assume there aren't more.
I have continuity issues with Locke having the C4. Unlike Solver, I did not imagine a "2 minute warning" video. But he might have known the design of the outpost cabin. In addition, it's interesting that Locke pushed Eyepatch to his doom (deadly "sonic pulse" LOL!!!).
So yes, I can imagine an Others connection for Locke.
The time warp thing is ultimately going to annoy the hell out of me, but at least they're making more entertaining episodes now.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

There HAD to be a warning video. As far as I see it, the DHARMA members could even be oblivious as to what the "hostile invasion" code does - so they'd have to be warned somehow. What I found more interesting from that bit is that the DHARMA somehow knew about the Others back when they were still active.
Locke pushed Mikhail into the barrier for two reasons, I think. First, it was a way of founding out if the barrier works and how it does. Second, Mikhail almost gave out Locke's secret (him having been paralysed), and Locke saw no real reason to keep him alive anyway. Granted, though, he didn't know that the barrier is lethal.
Mikhail saying "thank you" before dying is a pretty strange thing...Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

@Guy -- Interesting assumption that the plane wasn't targeted - and potentially stocked with posers - prior to takeoff.

Well, if we assume Desmond crashed the plane by not pressing the button, than the whole plant-on-the-plane things makes no sense.
And even if Desi didn't crash the plane, it still makes no sense: there's no guarantee the plant(s) would have survived!
And again, it makes no sense that there would be a new plant with the 815ers now, given Hurley's census..."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

Some of the C4 might have been posted on the walls of the main floor of the building, perhaps even on the computer to ensure its destruction.
Locke tossed Mikhail into the sonic mind blender. I'd say that was pretty nuts. Even if he didn't know that it was a sonic mind melter it seems to me that the more logical first step would have been to throw a branch or rock."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

What I don't get is: In an earlier episode they were playing golf in that valley. How'd they miss the sonic fence then?“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”
"Capitalism ho!"
