  • Drop Everything; Work, Travel, Work, Travel..

I've been considering quitting my job and just travelling the world with just the essentials.

First plan is to go to Australia with my best friend, both get jobs, doesn't have to be a great one, live there for 1 - 2 years and have fun, then move to the next country and do the same thing. My dream is to do this for about 8 years, then settle down and have children.

Only one problem I see with this is that I since I will not be progressing in any one job, my income will always be low, (unless I get a really good job), which means our children will suffer in a way.

What do people think of this idea? Has anyone tried it before?

The other option is to become a strategy consultant. That way, you get to travel the world while making a lot of money

My dad travels all the time on business (lawyer) and says it's meh. He's been to every major city in North America, but they're nothing more than airports and hotels to him.

I've wanted to do that, just walk everywhere, don't live in one place more than 1 night. I could really see myself doing that.

Lancer essentially works 6 months in Oregon, quits his job and goes to the Phils for 6 months, comes back and gets another job...although right now, he's working pretty steady at the casino. He never gets a chance to advance far before he quits, so his savings aren't much. He's planning on retiring to the Phils, which will make his dollars stretch.

I would check out where you want to go, first, before you take the plunge. See if you need work permits or whatever.

On thing you might look into is teaching English.

I have considered doing this myself (actually been very close to moving far away for a year, as I got a job offer in Argentina, but decided not to as I wasn't sure if I could trust the company)
This space is empty... or is it?

8 years is a pretty long time to wander.

I could see myself doing that maybe for a summer or something, but not for 8 years.

I'd much rather just settle down and have the family.
