Similar to what techumseh said. That it would have been smarter to have had more people along with him and done it in a safer place. This thread is entitled chegitz does something, very, very, very VERY stupid after all.

I suspect much of the criticism of what che did stems from people's disapproval of his politics.

I don't really recall being critical of what he did.

So the pro-Posada folks were holding a tiny, peaceful demo. No wonder the cops had better things to do.

You then exercised your right to free speech to conduct a counter demo. You certainly had the right to do so, and to do so without molestation. I myself generally only go to "pro" demos, not counter demos, even when I think the demo being countered is profoundly wrong, or objectively pro-terrorist. OTOH I certainly understand that many think a counter demo is necessary. Again, its certainly a right, and one you should have without regard to ideological position.

I hope you are OK, and that the authorities take this as seriously as they would any other violence between demonstrators and counter demonstrators.

Well, if people are going to hold a pro-demo for OBL, I think police should be interested, because there's bound to be problems.

Well, Posada isn't equivalent, except his profession is the same. Maybe he coudl be compared to very well accomplished hardlining IRA dude, with a speciality of blowing up kids or something like that.

Well yes, but I have to imagine that if the situation had been reversed, that there was a demonstration of 100 socialists having a peaceful demonstration, there would have been police present.

I was thinking about it today, and I have to admit that this has dredged up some reactionary feelings in me. I'm sitting here thinking to myself, how dare these god damned foreigners attack me in my own country for exercise my Constitutional rights to free speech and peaceable assembly!?! There's a very anti-Cuban darkness simmering here. But I suppose people do not have rational responses to being attacked.

It's funny. Right after that segment they had one about some Cuban boat people making it to the U.S., and I found myself thinking, "Does the media in Arizona have congratulatory stories about Mexicans who successfully made it through the desert?" And the person they interviewed didn't even talk about how they had to leave Cuba because they wanted to be free. He just said, "Now to make some money."

The other comrades are going to the police to file charges. As a socialist, I have a principle against using the state to fight my political battles. From a practical standpoint, I'm not sure what good it will do. Assault and battery is a minor fine and maybe 30 days if they can't pay the fine. Since th guy can afford a lawyer, he can afford the fine. I can see a civil case, since Saavedra (the guy who threw the megaphone) and dented Sonja's car. He should have to pay to fix that.

Bunnygrrl told me Friday to stay out of further involvement with the Cuban quagmire, and I already pissed her off by giving that interview yesterday. She is really mad at me.

It is a pity so few of us actually stand up for our priciples (or indeed any principles!) anymore - and maybe this is why the bullies of this world are allowed to thrive.

I agree with everything you've said about the reasons for taking this stand, but please be careful out there because people like this have proved in the past that they'll use any means necessary to silence their critics!

But then they brought him back in to the fold during the Reagan years, because he was helping to organize the Contra terrorists, as well as smuggle drugs into the U.S. in order to fund them. When Eugene Hausenfus was shot down he reported that he worked for Felix Rodriguez and Posada (though he referred to them by their aliases).
