I missed the first half of the new one last night.

Just saw the end where Octavian's man was hitting on his sister while the Pollo and Varinus rounded up the girls.

Yeah, I think Posca is still in servitude.

And that WASN'T Octavian's man. It was a slaver's man.

The new Octavian was jarring, because it didn't seem all that much time had passed in the other story lines (Vorenus & Pullo, Atia & Servilia). Seemed like the timeline got smooshed and contorted).

I actually prefer the Pullo/Vorenus story. We all know what's going to happen in the Octavis/Antony one.

Yeah, that's because they are only doing 2 seasons instead of 3

They knew they were doing it in 2 seasons. Still, could have done it MUCH better.

Not really, htere's only so much you can cram into two seasons.

(Hell, they are essentially cramming the Triumvirate Wars and Octavian V. Antony into one season, when they should be getting a season each)

Of course they could. Do a "2 Years later" thing (or whatnot) and have all the story lines advance on that timeline, rather than have some storylines jump forward a few years, while others stay the same.

Or, better yet, don't replace Pirkis. He was 17 after all when the filming happened for Season 2. Not much makeup needed to make him look 19.

                      I said Octavian's man.

Octavian sent the same runner to his sister and mother that he had been sending giving them news of his victory of Mark Anthony. The runner made something of a pass at Octavian's sister.

They did the rise and fall of Ceasar in just one season when they should have spent on year on Ceasar's conquests as the young Ceasar (it would have been interesting to at least talk about Ceasar's bridge over the Rhine river) and then spent the next season showing Ceasar's slow transformation into a dictator and tyrant.

I can understand why they felt they needed to replace Pirkis; it is hard to picture him as an emperor, even as good as he was as Octavian. However, the replacement isn't really more believable as a general or an emperor. Especially jarring considering that the wee Vorenii didn't age a bit.

                            Wha?

The death of Gaius Julius Caesar and the aftermath is far more interesting, especially the Triumvirates and Antony & Cleopatra.

Yeah, I think that's the main problem for me. Doesn't seem very statesman like at all... which is why I said Pirkis seems like the better actor to me. He seemed very much like a up and coming politician.

And, add to that, the new Octavian played Mr. Bingsley in Pride & Prejudice and it just feels all wrong for him to be the great man of Rome.

Well, it was just one episode, he may win us over yet. But Pirkis certainly set the bar high.

That is the main problem... we'll always compare him to Pirkis who was fantastic in his role. He was also great in Master and Commander. I'd say he's got one Hell of a future in acting.
