I don't mind a few historical inaccuracies. It's an enjoyable show after all. However, I couldn't help but to point them out.

Yeah, it's about time Pullo and Vorenius have a role reversal.

I find it funny that Mark Anthony has been depicted as such a vicious brute. Even Augustus didn't smear him like that.

And the poor Cicero seems to resemble a rather incompetent and cowardly clown.

I think it'll be real interesting when they do the 'fast forward':

      Spoiler:
      Supposedly after Episode 3

so they can end the series with Octavian taking over.

I have a feeling that Atia will assume the role of Mark Anthony's wife, Fulvia, who was a power hungry slut by any means. Interestingly, Fulvia has not appeared in the series so far.

If that were the case, expect Atia to stir trouble against her son and a final face-off between the two in Perusia.

                That was amusing.

The guy who plays Antony does it brilliantly.

I have to disagree with you here--nearly everyone else in the show thinks Antony is a brute, and while he is certainly a hedonist, he has also shown himself to be remarkably clever. He plays his image as a simple brute to his great advantage again and again, as especially seen in the most recent episode.

With a little help from boy wonder, of course. Antony was going to leave and raise an army before Octavian explained a few things to him.

Nevertheless, he played Brutus, Cassius, Servilia, et al., like a fiddle, once Octavian (my favorite character) showed him the way.

Anthony was supposed to get the proconsularship of Macedonia in 43BC. However, he arranged to have his province transferred to Cisalpine Gaul, along with all the legions in Macedonia.

Octavian was soon off raising his private army while Anthony waited in Brundisium for his legions. Before Anthony returned to Rome, Octavian attempted a coup d'etat with his troops, but nobody gave a damn about him and he was forced to retreat to Etruria. Anthony could have declared Octavian a public enemy at that point and made short work of him, but then one of Anthony's four legions defected to Octavian and saved him in the process.

Anthony's province, Cisalpine Gaul, was being held by one of Caesar's murderers, Decimus Brutus, and Anthony quickly had him bottled up in Mutina. The Senate, under Cicero's instigation, outlawed Anthony's actions and ordered the Consuls Hirtius and Pansa to march against him. Cicero also legalized Octavian's private army, gave him a high-level position, and got him on board against Anthony.

Anthony, badly outnumbered at Mutina, was defeated and fled cross the Alpine to join his main force. However, both Consuls Hirtius and Pansa were killed in this battle, and left Octavian suddenly in control of 8 legions. He refused the senate's order to turn the legions over to Decimus Brutus and kept the troop's loyalty. Decimus Brutus fled soon afterwards and was killed on the run. Then, Octavian marched a second time on Rome with 8 legions. 2 other legions conscripted by the Senate simply went over to him. Thus in mid 43BC, he forced himself to be elected Consul, the youngest in Roman history ever. (Benito Mussolini would exactly imitate Octavian in his 1922 march on Rome)

Meanwhile, Anthony joined ranks with Lepidus and Plancus and got control over 17 legions. He then marched toward Rome. Upon hearing this, Octavian confronted him with 11 legions in Northern Italy, where the three men, Octavian, Anthony, and Lepidus formed the second Triumvirate.

The history up to this point was very confusing, let's see how the series does that.

                            QFT.

They've already ignored some points - such as Octavian being in Illyria when Caesar was killed and coming back to Rome with a couple legions for his own "protection". They glossed over a bunch in the first season, and they'll do it again.

Not that I'm complaining - the show is a lot of fun. But I watch it secure in the knowledge that it is historical fiction.

As well you should, because we all know that if the history gets too complicated, they'll go for what is simple, because they are telling, first and foremost, a fictional story. Documentaries do in dept history.
