    Yes they should send more troops and finalise this whole thing.

    Anyone on streets who points a gun or acts suspicious SHOOT them...


    Then do the same thing in Amerian towns to reduce the crime rates too..

          I doubt Abizaid truly would want to retire if things are going well. No one retired in the middle of WW2 and infact Generals wait their whole lives to manage the big game. More likely this is like the CEO who "retires" after a really bad turn heading a company so he can "spend more time with his family". Everyone knows the poor sap is just being politely shown the door.

            But it was Stalin who would kill, by the thousands or even millions, his own people who even looked like they might not be happy with his rule. Now THAT just might work in Iraq.

                Unfortunetly for that point of view, CENTCOM is not Iraq. As an area commander he has done very well, since his job is not so much Iraq's battle plan, that is for General Casey and his subordinates. Rather things like support/logistics, personel issues, diplomatic relations and the like are his bag. People forget this about the area commands. CENTCOM is Iran. It is the Horn of Africa. It is Afghanistan. It is Pakistan. It is the Persian Gulf. It is Isreal. Do you have any idea how many nation's warships are under his "command" in the waters alone? He sure took the time to visit us off the oil platforms to have lunch in the wardroom, and we talked about nothing but Iran (even though we were in Iraqi waters).

                I like how the WWII comparisons are ridiculed until you think they might come in handy. There is nothing to indicate there is anything odd about his overdue retirement. Again, how long did the last CENTCOM stay at that post?

                        If we wanted to, we could raze a few major cities to show we mean business and shoot anyone who resists. Baghdad a problem? Raze it and sow the earth with salt. If we wanted to, we could shoot 10 Iraqis for every Coalition soldier killed. That's waging war the way a conqueror would. That method would bring order, but it would completely contradict anything that the administration has stated as a reason for supporting the war, and it would be morally reprehensible to most people both internationally and in the U.S.

                        It's not an option.
