I understand that he just fired some more generals who told them that additional troops wouldn't accomplish what he's hoping for.
The Republican spinmeisters are saying that Bush is acting like Lincoln, firing generals until he can find one that can win.

Yeah, too bad Lincoln didn't keep McClellan. He kept Lee confused and thinking, WTF?

If he had, you'd have to change all of your letterhead from "USA" to "CSA"

That is funny. He's acting more like a man in denial who keeps shooting the messengers who tell him things he doesn't want to hear. Bush is in his plastic bubble and he gets made when people try to show him reality.

That's why I get so mad back in 2004 and even in 2006 when Bush kept insisting he was doing what the Generals told him needed to occur. Nothing could be further from the truth. Bush just kept firing Generals until he found one that mouthed exactly the words he wanted to hear then said "See? They agree". That's egoism not leadership and very poor egoism at that.

If you can name one General who has been fired in the past two years over his tactical/strategic viewpoint I will give you a cookie Oerdin.

                Good luck

As to the OT, bieng as this war is and the Vietnam war are in fact both wars obviously they share some similarities. Unfortunetly there are for more instances of difference that the average moron asshat prefers to ignore.

Originally Abizaid was going to be the one guy Bush kept in place but then Abizaid had to go say a troop surge was the wrong move which wouldn't work so Bush ****canned him. Sure, the rightwingers will come up with a half dozen other excuses but Bush has a repeated pattern of standing by people until they actually say something which is different from Bush's fantasy world then they get canned.

General George Casey was also a favorite of Bush's until he opened his mouth and said a troop "surge" of 20k for a few months wasn't enough to do much and wouldn't work as anything more then a PR move. Casey was ****canned shortly after that.

Dare to disagree with Bush or point out flaws in his choosen course of action and you get fired. Facts don't matter, reality doesn't matter, only Bush's ego matters.

                          Hah,

Oerdin, you do realize Abizaid was supposed to retire years ago and was staying on as a favor? You can characterize his leaving as whatever you want, but there is nothing to indicate this is anything more than a normal rotation of commands. If you disagree, how long was the last CENTCOM there for? The one before? But I guess anyone who disagrees with Bush about Iraq troop levels or the color of the White House bathroom towels deserves life appointments to their position.

According to Defense officials, Abizaid submitted his retirement documents just over a month ago, shortly before Donald H. Rumsfeld was pushed out as Defense secretary. One recently retired Army general said Abizaid had wanted to retire earlier but that Rumsfeld blocked the move, insisting his war commanders stay in place.
                          From your own souce.

General Casey who is the lead commander in Iraq was just rotated to Army Cheif of Staff, and people are still screaming he was "fired."

Give me a break dude, you used to beautiful

And of course our favorite guy weighs in again.

Nothing except that two weeks ago, McCain was almost begging him to testify that a surge would help but the response was firmly that it wouldn't.

It doesn't chage the fact that Abizaid wanted to retire long before any of this. Generals retire, just like any other profession. His latest attempt at retirement was before Rumsfeld left, and again how do you explain the "firing" of Casey when he was in fact promoted?

I have already said that Iraq is a lot like Vietnam in many ways. I think there is no hope for "winning" because Iraq's neighbors, Iran and Syria, will continue to destabalize Iraq. Any progress will only be temporary.

We can hold on while we solve the problem of Iran and Sryia, or we can bug out, the sooner the better, if we are unwilling to address the larger context just as we were unwilling to do what was necessary to knock North Vietnam out of the war.

Vietnamization was mere camoufage for retreat. Bush has not yet chosen to retreat in Iraq, but he is also doing nothing about the real problem here: Iran and Syria.
