The Second War of American Independence has been cluttering the Off topic too long, and it belongs here. Post anything here, from tactics, to war aims, Senators speeches, various Canadian obsessions, etc.

And let any reference to the War of 1812 be referred here without comment.

The USS Constitution got its nickname as Old Ironsides... still in commission.

And we whipped the Brits at the Battle of New Orleans

We fired our guns, but the British kept a comin'
There were quite as many as there was awhile ago.

We burned York (modern-day Toronto)

Fought the British to a stand-still on sea.

Blunted their offensive at Ft. McHenry.

IIRC, won a battle on Lake Champlaign.

Got a good peace treaty

And then whipped them when they tried to take New Orleans after the war was over.

Modern Americans have managed to so alter history in their own minds that the war they started by invading a british overseas possession is now seen as one of defence against the Empire.
