What about an octaroon? Do they stand a chance?

What the heck are you asking about issues for?? This is America, goddammit, where we pick our leaders based solely upon superficial rumor and innuendo!!

At least he's admitting he did more than "not inhale".
Also, at least he's admitting them, then trying to bury them.
Makes him a little less hypocrtical on this aspect, in my eyes.

In the book, Obama acknowledges that he used cocaine as a high school student but rejected heroin. "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though," he says.

I don't understand his rationale regarding the difference between heroin and cocaine. Two downers are okay, one upper is okay, but I guess an injectable downer is not?

My question is this: do we really need another former cokehead in the Oval Office?
Could he do any worse? I have a feeling that we're in a trend that the people elected to highest office will have encountered some sort of mind-altering substance. Clinton, Bush, and perhaps Obama.

But. Could he do any worse? Judging by how much Bush has ****ed up our country, I'd be hard pressed to imagine so.

I can't help but think that we might be better off letting someone who hasn't done blow lead the Free World for a while.
Perhaps. But instead we might get a pill-popper leading the world.

You know, one of them freaks who takes a legal mind-altering substance.

This is clearly highly relevant to how he would act as a president now.
About as relevant as Bush's coke habits are.

That's because he hasn't really done all that much. He's like Kennedy. Young, attractive, charismatic, and probably one of the best presidents ever at getting shot.

I don't think he was asserting a substantive difference between the two. Just that he used one and not another.

Also, being able to write a pretty good memoir (and be editor of the Harvard Law Review and a U of Chicago Constitutional Law Prof)

Not bad for a former cokehead.

Only an elitist, leftist, liberal America-hater would think that writing a memoir, editing a Harvard Law Review, and being a professor at UChicago would be "doing not bad".

A real American would be running small oil exploration companies into the ground. Because that's what you have to do to find oil, dig very deep holes. That's doing good for yourself after being a cokehead.

I'd have a lot more respect for him if he hadn't admitted it. What are we supposed to tell kids when a Presidential candidate not only isn't ashamed to admit that he used cocaine, but tries to turn his openness about it into a badge of honor? Or, to paraphrase Chris Rock, how do you tell your kid not to get high when the Democratic presidential candidate is happy to tell everyone he snorted coke?

That telling the truth is good .

Teach them responsibility instead. Tell them to have some if they wish but to assume the consequences. The War on Drugs has shown it, censorship and blackout don't work.
