Drinking is quite intellectually stimulating for me. Mayhap you're just the wrong kind of drunk?

There are different kinds of drinking, too. I prefer to drink something pleasant to taste (scotch, dessert wines, gin and tonic) until I am drunk and find everything funny, then cool off for a while until I have metabolized some of the liquor. When I begin to feel sober again, I drink a little more. At the end of the night, I guzzle several glasses of water before going to bed. Never yet had a hangover or thrown up after drinking.

Whereas I understand most people's idea of drinking is to chug foul-tasting crap until they fall down or start ralphing. I don't consider that fun, though to be fair I've never tried it.

And I almost entirely drink stuff I like. Like Talisker scotch.
