Official: Saddam to be executed tonight
    AP - 41 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The official witnesses to Saddam Hussein's impending execution gathered Friday in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone in final preparation for his hanging, as state television broadcast footage of his regime's atrocities. The Iraqi government readied all the necessary documents, including a "red card" -- an execution order introduced during Saddam's dictatorship.

Hypocrisy certainly. But not cause by political correctness.

Rather, I think my intellect is being overwhelmed by a primordial desire to avenge the untolled misery and death Saddam unleashed on that part of the world.

He would be of better use if sentenced to "civil service". Like clearing the old mine fields he created on the Iranian border in the 80's. I believe those mine fields are still there? Who will be used to stomp paths through them, now that Saddam is gone?

There have been worse people in positions of power in the world than President Hussien. Unless they get in the way of the United States, it lets them be.

Hussien is being killed not because of any crimes he committeed while in power, but because his removal is the last justification the US has for launching a war which has killed tens of thousands of people and failed to meet its objectives. There were no weapons of mass destruction, no links to terrorists and no threat to the American people.

The real objective of was Iraq's oil. But of course it will never admit that, so another justification is needed. Removing a murderous dictator from power is America's last excuse for the war.

President Hussien is being killed by the US, acting through it's client state. It is doing so to avoid facing it's responsibility for crimes far worse than those of Saddam Hussien.

Saddam deserves death as much as the Chauchesko couple(spelling?) did! Even though I oppose the death penalty in principle, there are a few exceptions to the rule, and Saddam has a top score on the list!

That must really be an interesting mix of "funny" mushrooms you are on

Not any of your statements makes any sense, but I must admit they give a good laugh .

                      Edit : forgot the laugh.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I feel badly for the people he killed, their families, HIS family, even for him having wasted his one chance at life; but not a bit over his paying the penalty.

If he is executioned it isn't a far fetch that he may be claimed as a hero/(dammit - I'm to tired, but I think that you know the right word).

"Claiming him as a hero" (they probably won't.. they didn't like him) and wishing he was reinstated are two vastly, vastly different things. The religious fanatics will probably be glad he's gone because then they can get on with running the country.

Are you for real ? Are you seriously claiming that his defendors are doing it for free ? And the killing - well, I may be wrong, but my impression is that it's the judges and prosecutors that are in danger.

How in the world is "his lawyers are [probably] getting the standard wage that a court appointed defense attorney would" = free?

And Saddam's lawyers have been killed as well.

The religious fanatics would probably cut his throath when they find it opportune, but they certainly won't do it while he may be an icon.

An icon to Arab nationalists. Not religious Wahabbists. The fundamentalists don't care if they piss off Arab nationalists... they want to overthrow them in the first place.
Imran, have you ever heard the phrase "my enemys enemy is my friend" ? No doubt, the islamists wouldn't hesitate for a moment if they were able to kill him, but when circumstances is as they are, they don't mind a bit to call him an islamic hero and defender of the faith. You can quibble all you want about how hated he is in religious circles, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a perfect icon of the war against the west.

                                Define mass.

20 and 30 prisoners at a time were executed at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere, warders trailed through cities like Baghdad, "selling" exemption from execution to shocked families, according to people in Iraq who said they had spoken to relatives of those involved. Bribes of money, furniture, cars and even property titles brought only temporary stays.

I'll save my tears for things that are worthy of them.
                                Won't be Hussein.

Why do you think U.S. personnel are staying on-site with Hussein? To try and make sure he's just hung, not tortured and/or abused.
                                He's lucky.
