    Why dont you ask THEM?

from the article in the OP

"In recent years, as word has spread that circumcision might be protective, many African men have sought it out. A Zambian hospital offered $3 circumcisions last year, and Swaziland trained 60 doctors to give them at $40 each after its waiting lists grew.

“Private practitioners also do it,” Dr. Halperin said. “In some places, it’s $20, in others, much more. Lots of the wealthy elite have already done it. It prevents STD’s, it’s seen as cleaner, sex is better, women like it. I predict that a lot of men who can’t afford private clinics will start clamoring for it.”"

      This is ridiculous!

Of course many men do it. That doesn't mean the vast majority would or should.

And I don't think you realize how much money $20-$40 is in Africa...

In Kenya and Uganda where the studies were done, the population growth rates are well over 2% per annum. pop is now declining ina few places like Botswana, but that country is relatively affluent and had lower birth rates already. Certain in places like Kenya and Uganda birth control is a very important issue.

I used birth control pills for the sake of illustrating the logic of discouraging an effective method of dealing with a problem in order to encourage condom usage. It could apply as well to any non-condom method of birth control.

Many men do it, despite the cost. If it were less costly, many more might do it. You asked WHY any would do it, and I gave you the answer. An answer that contradicts your a priori views.

Many men also rape little boys, this is not an acceptable argument for explaining why the masses should or will do something.

"Many" uncircumcised men have been circumcised in adulthood and testify to the loss of sensation.

It makes sense that Africans would think that circumcision was better than comdoms. That is a more physical action, and so makes sense that it would have better results (despite not, for good use of condoms).

I mean, look at what other 'home remedies' are applied over there.

What? You asked why anyone would do this, and I gave a quote why. I dont see whats so complicated about it. I mean you can argue their wrong, but it seems silly to argue theres no demand.

FYI --- circumcision in Africa is NOT offered, AFAIK by either Apple or Sony.

I was asking why the general African public would be clamouring for circumcisions. You provided a quote that shows us at least some people have found it's worthwhile to get circumcised (I guarantee you they're not very educated on the matter), but that does not speak for the public at large. Your quote specifically mentions the "wealthy elite", as as you know are few and far between.

The end result? It's a ridiculous comment. If these people knew how good condoms were they wouldn't be off getting their dicks chopped. I can't help but think these poor fools tricked into getting circumcised are having unprotected sex afterwards -- why not, anyway! They've been cured by the knife.

Harr harr. Circumcision is a bit more evil than Apple or Sony. You're crippling a man's most precious pieces.

You are depriving the man of the use of the most sensitive and nerve-dense organ of the human body. Cripple is apt.
