How is this so? Wouldn't that imply a 12+ month gestation period since Christmas is designated as Dec. 25?

Catholics: Feast of Immaculate Conception - Dec. 8???
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of ManTags: None

1. It's the day they celebrate, never stated as the day it happened.
2. Similarly, Christmas is just the day they celebrate the birth of Jesus, and is acknowledged by the church as bearing no relation to the actual date of birth. It was chosen as a replacement for seasonal heathen holidays such as Sol Invictus, Yule, and Saturnalia.

There is a widespread misunderstanding of the term immaculate conception. Many people, even many Catholics, believe this refers to the conception of Jesus by Mary. Nearly every time this term is used in the mass media, it is in reference to the conception of Jesus by Mary. Because of this, the immaculate conception is sometimes jokingly referred to as "the immaculate misconception". The conception of Jesus by Mary is more properly called the Incarnation of Christ. The phrase "Immaculate Conception," by Catholic interpretation, is not directly connected to the concept of the "Virgin Birth." The Catholic Church celebrates the Immaculate Conception on 8 December, exactly nine months before the official birthday of Mary. The Incarnation of Christ, also known as The Annunciation, is celebrated on 25 March, nine months before Christmas Day.Last edited by -Jrabbit; December 8, 2006, 14:38.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

First off, the Immaculate Conception is the Immaculate Conception of MARY not of Christ, where she was immaculately conceived in the womb of St. Anne.
If you want to read more about the feast day, go here.
In the Constitution Ineffabilis Deus of 8 December, 1854, Pius IX pronounced and defined that the Blessed Virgin Mary 'in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin.'Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Wait now MARY is imaculatly concived TOO??? And how dose that NOT make her the dauter of god??Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

Catholics believe Mary to be sinless and that she was bodily assumed into heaven. The only way she could be free from original sin is if she were immaculately conceived.
The reason she isn't the daughter of God, is because she has a human father and mother, unlike Christ who has Mary as his mother and God as his father.
She was only kept free from sin because Christ chose her to be his mother.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

christ is part of God or something, and sat with God at creation and (in Paradise Lost) fought a battle with Satan about that time. So hes been around forever, so to speak. His being born is just his entry into the world as an "incarnate being"
As for how he can be God and man, thats something the christians have argued about for 2000 years, and from time to time fought wars about the details of. Not my thing exactly.
ill leave that stuff to BK, who can explain it much better, esp given as he believes in it.
I can heartily recommend Paradise Lost, however."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber

I actually found it a bit funny that an atheist and a jew discussed cristian matters.
Though, I'm grateful for your info since I'm a curious personWith or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
