Only thing I ever would eat at Mickey D's is a McRib and fries. Maybe a milk shake.

You cannot notice a difference in taste between using healthy alternatives (olive oil for cooking, for instance). This is not about the government telling people what they can or cannot eat. That is a strawman argument.

The only thing this is about is a toxic, artificially produced oil being banned. Period.

Personally I don't understand weed legalization supporters not supporting the right to ingest food stuffs.

          Or vise-versa.

And Shiva, maybe you best just come here after all.

Actually no. It presupposes a counter-arguement your opposition will take and then demolishes it. The problem with strawmen is many debaters don't actually attempt to create the arguement the person anticipated them making.

Establishing strawman is often a good way to pre-empt a line of thinking and is a valid logical exercise especially from a debate planning perspective.

Im no luddite, and I know man made != bad. But the man made label is important, in that it establishes a limit on what govt can regulate. Its established law and custom in this country that govt can regulate food additives, but that a free person has the right to, say, eat a fat juicy steak even its unhealthy. So what NYC is doing, IF transfats are manmade, is NOT establishing a new precedent of govt control of what you eat. If,OTOH, transfats ARE natural, then NYC IS establishing a new precedent, and the potential threat to liberty presumably establishes a much higher standard for societal harm.

                LotM,

I never implied anything towards trans fats with respect to goodness or badness for the body. I simply wanted to know why man made enters into the debate at all. It was automatically assumed man made is bad from Sava and Verto.

Man made trans fats were done once upon a time for a reason. Primarily for storageability where animal fat products were not likely to last.

No biggy. Now we know better wrt tot he health effects. But this is not cause for a man made products are teh devil discussion.

As for the new legal territory I believe NYC has attempted to clear themselves by attacking man made transfats only despite the fact that transfats do ocurr in nature only at least according to the article and from that perspective the vegetable oils do go thorugh hydrogenation.

Maybe I missed something, I thought Sava and Vertos point was not "man made are the devil" but rather "man made are traditionally regulated by govt, so this is no biggie"

They don't get it, Drake. They'd just as soon have the government tell them what material their jammies should be made of, silk or cotton.
