Well my point was that fried foods are still fried foods, which are still bad for your health.

Well for one, trans fat found naturally in animals, from a study in your own Wiki article, do not appear to exhibit the same negative effects - even if this is due to the trivial amount one would intake from these natural sources.

Companies artificially create trans fat as a means of cutting costs, despite the increased health risks.

People arguing how the government has no place regulating this..I guess I just don't understand where they are coming from. This is no different, IMO, than the government regulating paints containing lead, or regulating child labor. Companies are knowingly adding an ingredient to their products that is criticised by almost all health groups, because it is cheaper than using other, more healthy, alternatives.

Well when should the government ban a substance, and when should it just warn people about that substance?

The human digestive system cannot metabolize these fats (the refined, artificial versions). THEY ARE TOXIC. It just takes longer for them to kill you.

Yeah, and the body doesn't break down chewing gum, readily but people swallow it.

                    Warn against Texans.
                    Ban transfats.

                      Personally, I don't understand the trans-fat supporters.

You cannot notice a difference in taste between using healthy alternatives (olive oil for cooking, for instance). This is not about the government telling people what they can or cannot eat. That is a strawman argument.

The only thing this is about is a toxic, artificially produced oil being banned. Period.

I wasn't aware of the disturbingly high content of chewing gum being used in food preparation in restaurants.

I'm not a trans fats supporter. I'm just very curious. Why can't we just warn people? Why the need to ban? Why should cigarettes, a product that causes cancer, be allowed on the market?

It's not a matter of you supporting eating garbage, Sava.
It's a matter of the government becoming involved in telling you what you can do to you.

And Asher, just sit there quietly, ok?

Should going 100 miles per hour on the highway be made legal too, Slowwhand?

Where? Is there a speed limit on the autobahn?
Let me save you some brain strain.
Still, about half the Autobahn system has no speed limit, but there is always an advisory limit of 130 km/h (81 mph). This recommendation is generally seen for what it is-- an attempt by the government to cover itself without having to upset millions of Porsche and BMW owners (AKA voters.) However, if you exceed the advisory limit and are involved in an accident, you could be responsible for some of the damage costs even if you are not at fault.

I don't think my eating fried chicken endangers you.
You don't want it, don't eat it.
