In a statement released Sunday, Strickland's parents, Kathy and Don Strickland, said their son "was a kind and gentle boy."

    ...

Strickland had no criminal record, but he was scheduled for a court hearing in January on a pending assault charge in Wilmington, said Donald Beskind, the law partner of Strickland's father and a friend. Beskind did not give details on the assault, but on Sunday said it was "the kind of thing that happens between two kids."
Obviously his parents perception is a bit blinkered - especially taking into account the bereavement. He sounds like a violent, thieving little bastard if you ask me. Still, probably didn't warrant being shot though...

As are most Golf fans. IMO, the republicans ought to use this case to outlaw Golf.

Assault and robbery, merely the kind of things that happen.
No wonder the "kid" was worthless, given his role models.

This is the second time in a row where you've defended blatant abuse of power harming somebody, who happens to be a teenager.

Why do your hate children? More importantly, why do you bend over for any authority figure?

Even if he was his school's biggest bully and thief, it didn't warrant being shot during an arrest attempt. Shooting a suspect when trying to arrest him is only ever acceptable if the suspect is providing a threat to someone's life.

Still, all I've heard are the biased testimonies of his 'nearest-and-dearest' and the fact that he was shot by the police, and so was his dog. I simply need more evidence to draw any kind of conclusion whatsoever before jumping...

How about the fact that he was unarmed.

But don't you think these are different issues? Obviously, the parent's testimony is biased, but whether he was a good guy or not is irrelevant to the situation. If indeed he was unarmed, which seems to have been the case, that's the only relevant fact when evaluating the shooting...

Neighbors said they long feared that something bad would happen at 533 Long Leaf Acres Drive - a home historically known for loud parties and noise.
Well no wonder they shot the kid.

It's in response to your condoning lawless acts, and the fact that police face violent, lying scum every day.
You don't want to wait on an investigation. You prefer to go off initial reports and assume the aggressive little hoodlums are blameless, though how you reach that conclusion is a mystery, since it's already reported and quoted that they were thugs.

If the cops shot this guy without reason, then they deserve to be brought up on charges; but you constantly assume them to be wrong.

My ass is covered. I'm saying let the investigation run it's course.
You're the one with his ass hanging out.

These kids just moved in recently, though. Presumably, the previous occupants were the loud ones.

I've condoned no such thing. I've supported prosecuting people for the crimes they commit.

Meanwhile, you condone assault and now murder -- surely lawless acts.

I'm happy for an investigation to run its course, but it's also pretty clear what went on. They shot his frickin' dog too.

Sounds to me like some more macho-macho men (likely from Texas, mind you) who got upset that they didn't answer the door right away and had a playstation controller in his hands (and being uncultured hicks, the cops likely thought it was some kind of new-fangled weapon!!!).

From what we know, this is an abomination. Since the cops have conceded he was unarmed, in the end you've got 6 heavily armed cops shooting an unarmed kid and his dog. You can wave your hands and wait for the investigation, but that's just a formality. Of course, it will happen before anything legally is done, but it's fine to villify those who:
                          1) smash kids' heads into concrete for drunkenly trespassing
                          2) shoot a kid and his dog for being slow to answer the door

Again I have to say I'm appalled. Not only did they shoot the dog but now it appears the dog was intelligent enough to answer the door.

Man no wonder those people were more upset about the dog being shot than some 2 bit punk kid.

That was one special pooch. RIP....

How is Asher's assuming that the police committed manslaughter any worse than your assuming that the kid they shot was a thug? The article basically says that the kid may have committed assault and that the cops may have committed manslaughter, but you assume that the kid committed assault and that the cops didn't commit manslaughter.
