You really don't know that... we don't know if the kid was passed out or totally harmless... or whether he was a loud and possibly scary drunk

    2) He caused physical harm to somebody (ears bleeding from blunt force trauma to the head is NOT a good sign)
He found somebody in his house... you weren't there, you have no clue what the situation was

    3) He bragged afterwards
You claim it matters, but it has nothing to with the mind set he had at the time, and what the actual situation was, which none of knows. The fact that he brags after the fact is meaningless in this case because it only addresses his mindset AFTER the fact.

    4) He whined about the kid not doing hard time for the incident
So what... the kid trespassed into is home... he wants a pound of flesh, big deal. Again, it has nothing to do with his mindset at the time of incident.

    • If the guy's so protective of his home to the point of beating kids who trespass, why doesn't he lock the door?

      Just a thought.

Maybe this guy isn't the brainiac we give him credit for. Perhaps he just likes to hit people (he did take boxing...).

      • However, I'm not saying I support his actions... I'm saying that I have no clue whether his actions were right or wrong, because we DON'T know the situation he faced.

But I am saying that trying to judge his actions at the time by comments made afterwards is not appropriate.
We are talking about the "heat of the moment" vs a much more relaxed later situation.

An assumption at best... you are trying to base his actions that happened in the house to other events or statements. None of us have a clue to what actually happened in the house. Trying to guess what his intent was based on his statements afterwards isn't valid.

Maybe he was just a scared homeowner who found somebody hiding in his house... totally unaware of what kind of threat the kid posed. Just because he was drunk doesn't mean he was passed out. I've seen VERY loud and scarey drunks before.

Doesn't matter what his intent was or how loud this 16 year old kid was.

There were TWO adults and ONE very inebriated 16 year old. If TWO adults can't manage to detain him without punching him repeatedly and smashing his head into the ground, they both ought to have their kids taken away for being too stupid to live, let alone have kids.

While you may be right... we don't know what the situation was. A person has the right to protect his family. A stranger/intruder was in his home. You may be willing to pass judgement without any of the facts, but I'm not. It very well could have been justified, but we will never know.

                • Why is all the emphasis of blame being put on reactions, and not actions?

His reaction was to take drastic action, one that wasn't necessary by any intelligent person.

One that as it happens, is illegal.

                    • For all we know, the kid could have broke into the home with the intention of robbing the house.

                      • Were I the parent, my anger would be directed first to the parents of the party house, then my son, and then, maybe, at the invaded homeowner.
Of course, that says nothing about the teenager's parents themselves, who didn't know what their son was up to.

If the kid was struggling or fighting back, it may not have been drastic action. We really don't know.
There are a lot of facts missing, and we will probably not know what really happened. So I'm not willing to say whether the guy was right or wrong. You are welcome to make up your mind without the facts if you so wish.

If the kid had fought back, we'd have heard of it. The guy would have mentioned it, because it would make his actions much more reasonable-sounding. Especially after he took lots of flak for overreacting.

The fact is, he never said anything about the kid fighting. The only action described of the kid is he got up at one point...

                            • Look, I've actually had a stranger walk into my apartment mistakenly. My first reaction was certainly not to grab him by the throat and pound his head on the ****ing floor. I told him I thought he was in the wrong place. He looked confused and backed out.

Escalating the situation is usually not necessary. I don't know if you guys are paying attention to this, but the kid was 16. 16 year-olds may have the full height of adults, but most of them are as weak as kittens. Especially when they're so drunk they can't tell one house from another. Instead of beating the kid half to death I have no doubt that this man would have been able to drag the kid outside with minimal risk to himself or his family.

Now, what the Crown can prove is another story. I don't doubt that this idiot will be told what to say in order to make it sound as though he was required to beat the living **** out of the kid in order to defend himself. There's no way he gets convicted of a serious crime.

Again, Sloww, that doesn't matter to this discussion.

Go start another thread where you can petition house parties as a capital offense.
