The Wii remote isn't as risky as you'd like to think. They basically finally realized Nintendo was relegated to its niche market of diehard Nintendo fans who'd buy it pretty much no matter what.

The Wiimote, by comparison, was a low-risk affair because worst case is they're stuck with the same small niche group...best-case they get a lot more.

The derivative games that Nintendo themselves have announced are hardly risky games. Super Mario GALAXY. Legend of Zelda! Super Duper Mario SMASH SHINE DELUXE. etc.

That's not been your argument so far.

It has been if you pay attention.

My argument is it's not going to work in the long-term.

I dunno, maybe you were looking to buy a Wii? And there is no place in Toronto who are selling Wii?

            • Did Microsoft call their console the REVOLUTION and talk about taking gaming to the next level?

It's cold and windy outside, and there's no point as I already know I'm getting one for Christmas because I'm "impossible to buy for".

I'm saying MS isn't positioning themselves as the saviour of gaming and then delivering cookie-cutter games and some tech demos, and as such is not subject to all of the criticism for their innovation.

But as I've said, Xbox Live and the Xbox 360 have innovated substantially and that's not really up for discussion.

This is about the fourth time you've spun around this argument in random directions, and it's a bit dizzying.

They're not positioning themselves as the saviour innovator of gaming, but they've done a lot more for real innovation in terms of multiplayer gaming and online gaming communities than others.

The Xbox 360 XNA Dev kit is free.

But if you want your games to be available on XBLA, it's $99 USD for the Xbox 360 SDK.

And yes, the PS3's SDK price is $50,000 USD and $2,000 USD for the Wii.

Combined with the fact that the Xbox 360 devkit is by far the best out of the bunch, is it any wonder that the 360 is the most supported console by game developers?

Wii Kit is not expensive... if we are lucky, for each 50 crappy "innovative" Wii games, we will have 1 really good "innovative" Wii games!

                              Sony???

I occasionally read Phil Steinmeyers blog - hes actually an indy developer (now - he made RRT2 and Tropico, IIUC) making casual games - for the PC. My impression is that the PC is still by far the platform of choice for the indy developer.
