It's the average hours per week that socially repugnant asshats from those cities spend on online forums whining about their suck-ass hockey teams... the 3rd Quarter moving average that is.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Suck-ass hockey teams that win games and possess 4 marquee players.

Although I can guess generally from the title, gepap has a point. What is this index asher?

Using 9 key macroeconomic variables, we have developed a metropolitan index of economic activity, which is structured in a way that approximates the change in each city's level of economic activity. With data going back for almost 10 years, our index enables us not only to monitor the current performance of a given city but also to track its cyclical behavior against the national economy and other census metropolitan areas (CMAs). The focus is on the 25 largest CMAs in Canada.

The macro variables used to develop the index are: (1) Population growth, (2) Employment growth, (3) Unemployment rate, (4) Full-time share in total employment, (5) Personal bankruptcy rate, (6) Business bankruptcy rate, (7) Housing starts, (8) MLS Housing resales, and (9) Non-Residential building permits. We combined all the above information into one index per city: "The CIBCWM Metropolitan Economic Activity Index"1.

And yet they are out of the playoffs (if they started today).

Perhaps it's just poor coaching... not getting everything out of those "marquee players", eh?

It's a measure of the rate of change in a mixture of.... population growth, employment growth, unemployment rate, full-time share in total employment, personal bankruptcy rate, business bankruptcy rate, housing starts, MLS housing resales, and non-residential building permits.

Edit - Wow, busy few answers there, thought I must have missed a page at first.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

If bigger = better, you'd be driving an SUV and be 800lbs. Let's face it, there's such a thing as too crowded and too big for its infrastructure. New York's traffic and sewage problems spring to mind.

                                NO, better = better.

We have traffic (thought I don;t know where the **** you get sewage given that NY's waterways are cleaner now than they have been for the last 100 years, to the point that river life is thriving) problem because people want to be here.

You know what Asher, the day any random person around the world is asked to name the five greatest cities in the world and Calgary is mentioned, I will give you a lollipop.
