  • Best. Bond. Ever.

No thread on this yet? Really?

Just got back from Casino Royale. It's freakin' amazing -- easily the best Bond film ever. Its closest cousins are From Russia With Love and especially On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which are also the Bond films that are truest to the books. Fantastic action sequences, great characterizations, real themes -- it's actually a Bond with intellectual and moral heft. Plus, the first chase scene is like something out of Bullitt or The French Connection, but without cars. There were one or two false notes, sure; Mathis "narrating" the poker betting was truly irritating, and

was beyond belief. But compared to the cartoon that Bond films have become, this was an exercise in high realism, and a hell of a ride.

I was worried about it. I'll probably go see it now.

Two and a half hours of my life I'll never get back. A horrible, boring phone advert masquerading as a film.

Worst film I've seen this year.

I wanted to see this film last night but it was sold out so we went to see Borat instead. Borat was exactly as I thought it would be funny but dumb at the same time.

There was a lot of irritating product placement, to be sure ("No, an Omega"), and it was about 30 minutes too long, but apart from that, it was a really entertaining film.

I saw it last night too. I'm still undecided where it ranks among the films (though easily among the best), but it was by far the best Bond ever. IMO, that's what Bond is supposed to be - not a one lining cartoon character.

I thought it was going to suck like "Die Another Day".

Any Bond without Sean Connery or Michelle Yeoh sucks, but I hear this one rocks, so I plan to see it.

Any Bond film film with Michelle Yeoh in it, by definition, does not suck.
