A bit of a silly situation but you can't just ignore the constitution because it doesn't do what you want.

Can too. See the 2nd Amendment.

No, not at all. I agree that those people have broken the law and should be deported. My point was that most of the laws passed in Texas have already been reviewed by the courts and found to be unconstitutional and illegal. The law makers in Texas know this and are just hoping Texans are to stupid to understand that they're being pandered to with things which will never take effect and which will be tossed out once again by the courts.

This is nothing more then Texas politicians grand standing and hoping Texans are idiots. It is a good bet that the Texans are idiots.

You don't understand the first thing about Texas.

Because of this ammendment you get bunches of pregnant Koreans coming over to have their kids in the states so that they can get American passports and avoid the Korean draft. A bit of a silly situation but you can't just ignore the constitution because it doesn't do what you want.

Right now illegal immigration is the best of all possible worlds for business. They get cheap workers who are easy to replace and easier to intimidate. Either amnesty or serious prosecution of the businesses that hire illegal immigrants (by far a better way of going about solving the problem since large businesses can't hide and have so much more to lose) would be vastly better than the joke of a policy we have now.
I've repeatedly said that if we are to keep closed borders then that is what we need to do. Fine the companies who are hiring the illegals out of existance and the illegals go away since they can't find jobs. Right now the fine is $1000 in the unlikely chance the employer gets caught. Make the fines 100,000 per worker so that the businesses must comply with the law or go bankrupt then the jobs for illegals will go away.

There isn't much to understand. Politicians are passing laws which they know the courts will toss out in a heart beat and have tossed out before in the past (make it illegal for citizens to go to public school because of what their parents did? YEAH RIGHT!). The politicians know these will get tossed out but they do it anyway?

The only conclusions which can be reached are 1) they don't really want to solve the "problem" (that would upset business owners who want cheap labor) and 2) They want to grand stand in front of voters so they can pretend they're doing something when in fact they are not.

If voters in Texas fall for that crap then they really are idiots and deserve the useless ****s who are governing them.

This isn't a "Texas thing". It's the whole southwest that has the problem. From Rexas to California, those Minute Men patrol.
All the states want a barrier. There needs to be a barrier. They need to be documented. For all the arguments over immigration, this has nothing to do with immigration. It's about documenting who is in the country.

If you go to France, or somewhere nice, do you need a passport to visit? Yeah. Do you have to keep them informed that you're there? Yes. Can they send you back? Uh huh.

What does any of this have to do with politicians passing laws that have been struck down by the Supreme Court and will be struck down again? It is an act of stupidity to assume that the courts will look the other way this time.

Just exactly which of these do you have gas over?

                    LET THE BILL BARRAGE BEGIN

                    Immigration

                    • Enact a constitutional amendment to prohibit illegal immigrants from benefiting from state services, including health care, public assistance and education.

                    • Require proof of citizenship on delivery of medical assistance.

                    • Require proof of citizenship to vote.

                    • Require proof of legal residence to be considered for in-state tuition at colleges and universities.

                    • Require proof of employment eligibility to get any kind of business, occupational or professional license from the state, counties or cities.

A barrier won't work. Not without patrols which Congress and the President deliberately won't pass just like they won't make it hard for illegals by requiring police to check immigration status/citizenship nor will they crack down in a meaningful way on employers.

I agree that either the laws should be enforced or they should be done away with but currently there is no enforcement, the government won't EVER actually enfoce anything (business doesn't want it), and so we are left with useless and costly symbols like a wall which won't stop anyone and which the politicians won't even fund. Wake up and realize you are being played.

If they were serious then they'd have the police check everyone's status at every stop, fine employers massively for hiring illegal workers, and actually bother to have more then 1 border patrol agent for every 50-150 miles. The haven't, they won't, so this is a joke designed to fool the stupid and those who aren't paying attention.

If we won't enforce the law then we need to change the law but passing laws then allowing employers and workers to ignore the law isn't a good thing. Either make NAFTA like the EU where citizens from member states can move freely or bother to do something which will actually work. Texas has proven they're in the "let's not do anything worth a rat's poop and hope the people are to stupid to realize it" camp.

This one is the one we are discussing:

Legislation by Rep. Leo Berman, a Tyler Republican who narrowly won his primary election in March, targets the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants, saying they shouldn't be allowed to attend public schools, get health benefits, work for the state or cities, go to college or qualify for unemployment.

How did NAFTA screw up anything for anyone. By all accounts the economies of all three countries have been growing well since it was passed. Trade between North American states is up dramatically since 1992. There's more money for everyone involved and lower inflation. Economically it is a flying success.
